In the 60's while living in S. Florida we brought groceries home and just inside the door the bag broke. Several potatoes rolled under the sofa. We finished putting the groceries away and was ready to get the potatoes when the doorbell rang. It was the daughter of the neighbor across the street and asked if we had a potato they could borrow. Without hesitation my wife said "sure" and reached under the sofa and gave her a potato. She went home and told her mother the neighbors across the street keep their potatoes under the sofa.

I keep mine in the refrigerator and have for years. Onions too.

I will put them both in the same ref. drawer, and put fruit and other veggies in the other drawer.

We have noticed no problems whatsoever.

Me too. In a cool dark place, the only one of those that I have is a lower kitchen cabinet, where there is not enough air circulation for the potatoes. And you can't store potatoes and onions in the same spot as the onions cause the patatoes to sprout eyes. Got tired of throwing out rotting potatoes & onions, so into the fridge they go.
