Golf Cart Liability Insurance Coverage related to speed.

Are we just supposed to Know the speed limit is 20 in a cart- and is it?

My golf cart insurance policy will not cover any accidents if I have the governor on my cart removed to allow it to travel more than 20 mph. The Village's Golf Cart store offered to remove the governor but I checked my policy first. So I don't care if others pass me. I read my policy's fine print.

On a side note, have you seen the articles about newer vehicles with navigation systems and cellular capabilities reporting that type of information through the manufacturers to a database accessible by the insurance companies? (earlier this year I believe) Big Brother may already be in your car.

Which is why I don't have Onstar or similar programs. A famous American long ago warned us about voluntarily giving up our freedoms

Im sorry, i do not understand what you are saying.

So, you never seen street legal cart going down morse blvd exceeding 30 mph? You’ve never been passed in diamond lane by cart going well over 25 mph in you car? I have, they don’t license golf cart to extra 5 mph they do that anyway. I once was passed by licensed par car going up morse blvd and I was going 37 mph. No LSV supposed exceed 25MPH.

I understand what you're saying but the reality is if you're connected to the Internet via your phone, computers, appliances, vehicles, doing online shopping, etc., your information is pretty much already out there. Every app you install on your phone is collecting data about you and most people have no clue as to what information is being collected or who it is being shared with. It's almost unavoidable unless you're gonna completely disconnect from everything.

Each person has to weigh the benefits/risks for themselves and act accordingly.

But that's a different topic and I don't want to hijack the thread.

Can’t remove the governor they alter it to let engine rev at higher RPM which increases the speed. Couple ways to do that. Small gas engines can work at different RPMs based in what work they are required to do.

Wait until someone pulls out in front of you and you have to slam on your brakes to avoid getting into an accident that wouldn’t have been your fault. Your insurance premium will increase because of hard braking, which is considered to be unsafe driving. There is no friggin way I would install that app.

What are you talking about. What are the criminal charges? If your caught going 60 in a 45 in your car, you get a ticket, that's all, there is no difference.

All true, but I don't have to make it easier for "them"

If you are caught going 60mph in a 45mph the ticket will be for exceeding a speed limit.

If you are caught going 25mph in a golf cart the charge is for operating an unregistered vehicle on a public road.

True, but when you think about it, it is an idiotic law. The whole point is for the state to collect that registration fee for essentially the same cart to legally go 5 mph quicker. It is NOT a safety issue---after all, what do you think is more dangerous?---driving 45 through a 15 mph school zone or driving a cart 20.1 mph on a MMP?

Of course this is rare and the extreme but legally you can be arrested.

So what would be the criminal charge?

Even if one is going 90, and the car behind wants to go 100, you MUST move over. Why???? Because you don't have any idea why that guy is going that fast---he may be a jerk, but he might be in the middle of an emergency. The point is that you DON'T KNOW, and it is not up to YOU to dictate his speed to him, that's why we have LEOs. That's existing law. There is also a pending law that would make it illegal to just cruise in the left lane when not passing anyone, regardless of speed. Again, it baffles me why so many, even on this site, think of them as self-appointed guardians of the speed limit. When someone wants to pass, just let them. I get passed all the time, and sometimes pass others. It's no big deal.

PS: Florida law also states that when you are getting passed, it is illegal to speed up to prevent it. You MUST maintain your same speed until the other vehicle has passed you. For all those self-appointed LEOs, I'd love to see enforcement of the laws I just stated above.

Great post!
