Re-design all of the entrances to Brownwood so that all traffic, autos, trucks, golf cars, bikes, etc. have to go into a parking lot and stay there, only pedestrians should be allowed on the streets. Problem solved and room for more bars and street vendors.

I would support making the actual roads around the squares pedestrian and golf cart only, even if only after 4Pm every day.
I’ve seen many close calls with cars backing out of parking sports at LSL and Brownwood, around the squares.

Could solve the problem with traffic circle!

That is why, as I said, four way stop signs are not a good idea.

All stop signs are suggestions anyway. But when LEO in the mix all sudden everybody knows how to negotiate them.

I've sent an email to Sumter County concerning this suggestion.

Thanks for the input.

Good job. Bear in mind that most people commenting on this have no idea that the intersection you described is now a major thoroughfare for golf carts coming off the rec trail from both directions .

Four people arrive at the stop sign at the same time. Who goes first?

The one with the biggest vehicle.

The danger issue is that golf carts can’t see around the parked cars until they pull into the intersection. It’s a bad accident ready to happen.

How to proceed at a four way stop.

Simpler solution is add Cross Traffic Does Not Stop signs to those intersection Stop signs. Won’t eliminate the problem but will help a lot.

Bethwill 12-07-2021 08:15 AM

Actually, there is a terrible visibility problem at that intersection. A traffic light would help as long as it is not on a timer, and actually monitors the traffic.

Sad isn't it.

This is the corner where the Villages Golf Cars is located. It is also the intersection where most of the carts coming from the bridge and other locations enter Brownwood.

The reason for my suggestion is close calls and watching other ones.

We need more rules because people don't follow the ones we already have? Sounds like the Federal government...

The trouble with adding stop signs is that they spread like wildfire. You add signs at that intersection and within a year every intersection at Brownwood will be a 4 way stop.

I believe that there are already several 4 way plus one three way stop signs in Brownwood that have been there since the beginning.

I have seen several people on W Torch Lake stop for the other traffic.
I noticed that they did away with the four way stop going into Lowes off of 466A.
Probably why they did away with the one at W Torch Lake...

I received a nice reply from the CDD in charge of this issue. There had been a traffic study done some time in the past indicating a 4 way stop was not necessary.

However, the Director of the District Property Management has said he will go review the situation himself.

I appreciated the responsiveness from the Director.
