Knowing north or south of main highways gives me an estimated drive time.

I think 466 was used as a mid point many years ago between SS and LSL and just continued as a habit. I'm sure the newer people way south don't even know where 466 is.

466 was where 'build out' was going to be, before it was changed to 466A, then 44 and now Orlando!:icon_wink:

The Villages is currently longer from north to south than the City of Chicago. Referring to County Road 466 is a bit like defining the “north side” or “south side” of Chicago.

(Although the area north of 466 is now only about 1/3 of The Villages. The area between 466 and 44 is roughly the middle third. The growing area south of 44 is the southern third.)

I love comparisons like this. Here is one I made up recently:

The Villages has nearly 2.5 times the population of Greenland. :coolsmiley:

I am new to TV and even after looking at a map several times, I still don't know why people tend to refer to locations as either north or south of 466. Please advise me what significance 466 has. Thank you

Same significance as North and South of Rt 44

Just think, someday Interstate 4 will be the mid point of The Villages !!!!!! Then you'll have to explain the same thing to those people.

It use to be the midway point from one end to the other.

Now the new sections south of CR44 seem to the south end.

I was told the Villages is laid out like a man wearing suspenders and three belts.

Left suspender is Buena Vista Blvd. Right suspender is Morse Blvd. First belt is 466, second belt is 466A, and the third belt is 44.

The Villages main roads are laid out like a hashtag (pound sign, #). Verticals are Buena Vista and Morse; horizontals are 466 and 466A. Now, of course, there's 44, which is an underscore to the hashtag. Not long from now there will be 470 at the bottom.

My current understanding (might be a little off)
Historic section: northeast of 27/441
Spanish Springs Area: north of 466
Lake Sumter Area: 466A up to 466
Brownwood Area: 44 up to 466A
New Area, South Area: south of 44 (No doubt this will be further differentiated by the Turnpike and the bridges once things fill out a bit more.)

Thank you so much

I always used to think of the north and south main roads (BV, Morse, 466 and 466A) as a Tic Tac Toe board. I guess the term "Hashtag" is more modern and up to date but I'm still stuck in the 1950s I guess.

Then along came 44 and that screwed everything up.
