There are signs when entering Sumter County from all roads into The Villages that state the speed limit in The Villages is 20MPH, UNLESS POSTED OTHERWISE. On those roads where these signs appear, there are posted speed limits and on that particular section of 466A, the speed limit is 45mph. The 20 mph sign is an advisory sign of what the speed limits are in TV if there are no signs stating speed. Why someone got a ticket if going no more than 45 I don't understand. There is the possibility that the ticketing officer was incorrect and if the ticket lists a speed of 45 or lower, I'd fight the citation in court.

I got this email today:

For those of you who have read the e-mail (which has been blasted all over The Villages) about the recent Speed Limit Change on 466A, the referred-to happening was about 3 years ago, when 466A and Powell Road were under construction, and in fact tickets were written at that time.

So maybe it is not true anymore.

I think 20 mph in the villages is a little to slow my vehicle in gear at a idle goes over 20 mph ,they must have shares in brake pads.or really need the money to support there pd dept.

No different than a school zone.
The key is be aware of your surroundings that includes posted speed limits.

This was my initial thought when seeing the sign, but someone always knows of a "person who got the ticket" Another tempest in a teapot!

That new 20mph unless posted impacts very few roads within The Villages in Sumter County. There was a POA meeting where this issue was addressed and if I remember only 11 roads were truly impacted. There are posted limits in most areas, including neighborhoods where limits could be 15mph. That's the speed limit within our neighborhood. It was a lot of upset by individuals who didn't really understand what the signs said. Being a good driver means that attention is paid to all posted speed limit signs. People are not necessarily crawling around at slow speeds here in our community.

That sign on 466A has been there a long time and it is not a 20-mile speed limit. The posted speed limit on 466A is 45. The posted speed limit within the Villages is usually 35, unless it is posted 20 or whatever.

Specifically, the limit is 35 on main roads where the cart path is separate, such as Buena Vista, Morse south of 466, Stillwater between Morse and Buena Vista, and El Camino. Main roads where the cart path is on the road are 30. Neighborhood roads are 20 if unmarked, or less if posted as such. The only exceptions to this I am aware of are Rio Grande and Del Mar, which are posted at 25.
