So sad, so, so sad. For everyone, those young kids are going to live with that forever too.

I fear it is one of our frequent posters.

It is very sad.

Here is the article from the "other news".

"
A 55-year-old resident of The Villages was killed in an accident early this morning near the golf cart bridge over U.S. Hwy. 27/441.
The accident occurred at 2:24 a.m. when the woman, who was in the roadway, was struck by a 2016 Audi A3 driven by 18-year old Keith Logan of Citra, according to a preliminary accident report from the Lady Lake Police Department. He said he saw an “object” in the roadway but could not change lanes due to a vehicle next to his. A passenger in his car, 19-year-old Alexandria Suarez, told police she also saw an “object” in the roadway.
The deceased woman’s name is not being released pending next of kin notification. She was a resident of the Historic Side.
Next to the woman, police found a set of keys to a Chevrolet that was found parked at Spanish Springs.
Police have not ruled out the possibility that she came off the bridge before being struck by the vehicle.
The woman’s body was removed from the scene by the Medical Examiner’s Office."
You have it totally wrong.

The lady committed suicide jumped off the bridge and soon afterward was struck by the car.

There is an article in The Villages Daily Sun today that starts on the front page of the Local Section and continues on C10.

It goes into the local and national resources for suicide prevention. Suicide Prevention Resource Center

Resources | National Center for the Prevention of Youth Suicide

SAVE: Suicide Prevention, Information, and Awareness

Very sad. Are there support groups for people suffering from depression in The Villages?

I believe so. Find Your Local NAMI | NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness

Home - NAMI of Marion County, Inc.

I do think that all libraries of any kind in the US should have links to materials that would help with suicide prevention , mental health awareness, domestic violence prevention and treatment, cyberbullying and person-to-person bullying prevention and treatment and many other things. Some public libraries now have social workers on staff which is also a good thing.

The in print materials help too but these are often soon out-of-date. Especially with respect to contact people as there is a lot of turn-around in certain sectors.

I wonder if people who are depressed can do much to help themselves. I think they need to have other people in their lives who recognize that they are depressed and encourage treatment.

Friends and/or family can contact groups like NAMI.

I remember my neighbor who was developmentally challenged killed himself around 1973 when we lived in Reno, Nevada because he felt no one loved him or understood him. This from the note he left. The house next to it had a suicide a few years earlier because of gambling debts and the husband's inability to face that dilemma. Reno had a lot of suicides and probably still has them. Gambling can be a very destructive addiction.

I do not how David the developmentally challenged man could have been helped back in 1973. I do not remember support groups for this segment of society back then. Things have improved a lot in that area IMHO.

In the Villages, for instance, it seems some companies actively seek to hire people with special needs in positions which will give them some sense of worth and purpose. And there are church groups and the like. My Mom helped some of these individuals through a Catholic Church program. She has training in special education.

I cannot imagine what that poor 18 year old feels right now. Imagine the horror of hitting a woman, despite it not being their fault.

As for being out at 2:30 in the morning, who knows. Or cares.

The time is critical for the amount of darkness, traffic and the like especially on a highway like US 441/27.

Not sure how the Lady Lake Sheriff's Office got 2:24 AM. Probably just an estimation. I would not be looking the car's clock if I had just hit something in the road. I do feel for the kids in this car as this will be a traumatic memory they will have to deal with the rest of their very young lives.

I feel really sad that this woman felt she had no option other than taking her own life.
Once someone is depressed and suicidal, I'm not sure anyone can help.
The real tragedy is the teenagers that hit this poor woman; they will have to live with the trauma for the rest of their lives.
