Default New Florida Driver's License and local office

Hi,

I can not find the thread about getting a Florida Drivers License and local office. In the thread it stated that you could make an appointment to do this and the requirements.

Please repost the information.

Thank you.

Hy,

Welcome back....can we assume things are progressing on your efforts to buy a house in TV? Hope it's working out for you.

Here is the top of the thread:

Just used the search function and typed in "license".

Good Luck....V07

Hi,

It is in the works.

I did a search but never used just the word license - I put in Florida License, Florida registration.

Appreciate the link.

Looking forward to finally meeting you.

I added this to my list:

31. Florida Drivers licenses and Automobile Registration. I mentioned bringing your birth certificates and other IDs with you in #3. You do need a valid driver’s license from another state (or country). You WILL get a vision test when you transfer your driver’s license to Florida. You will not be able to keep your old driver’s license. This site has all you need to know about getting a Florida Driver’s license and registering your automobiles in Florida. http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/ Look under Tags and Titles and New to Florida. (added 10/25/07)

Visit http://www.hsmv.state.fl.us/ to see what you need.

I went to Wildwood for my driver's license. It was not very crowded. Belleview has one on US301 that is not very crowded - sometimes.

Yup, you read correctly -- no written tests for licenses from most states, but not all.

I found insurance to be a little more expensive here than it was in the Bay Area (SF), which is pretty pricey -- mainly because of PIP. It is off the books until January and then I understand PIP will be required again, so you might get insurance cheaper until you have to renew.

After doing some shopping, I went with GEICO down here. Good coverage, good rates (cheaper than Progressive which is what I had in California).

We found our homeowners is much cheaper with State Farm than many other insurers. Many of our neighbors got really high increases this year but we did not. Of course, we have been with State Farm for ALL insurance needs for over 30 years and have always been satisfied with service and price.

No written test - just a vision test.

I shopped around but stayed with my original company for both (Liberty Mutual). I had to use an agent in Florida and they were able to change my home and auto policies effective with my move date. When I got here I had the Florida coverage and was able to register my vehicles right away. If you went to the web site mentioned above you can see the fees. There is a $100 import fee per vehicle when comingfrom another state.

For your homeowners, do not mention a pet unless they ask. Some insurance companies will not insure you if you have a dog on the forbidden list. And there are quite a few. I had to sign a waiver for my dog because I mentioned him. When my home insurance jumped $400 to get Citizens Insurance out of their bind for insuring coastal homes, I went to switch and was told by two companies - sorry no can do since you have a shepard/chow.
