We will, thank you for the notice. I sure hope everybody is going to be ok.

collision

According to The Daily Sun, the semi-trailer was parked and the bicyclist collided with it. Apparently the bicyclist didn't see the truck. Maybe he was avoiding another vehicle when it happened?

Well, running into the truck falls within the rubric of "Stuff Happens."

Still this is an interesting thread because I was planning on riding a bike when I move to TV and expected to ride on the cart paths. I'm strictly a Mary Poppins type with a little folding bicycle and a basket full of cookies. I don't know if I would feel comfortable on the regular roads, especially the roundabouts. Something to think about.

I would never negotiate a roundabout riding a bicycle. Basically, I almost never ride vehicles with only 2 wheels.

Wait till he sees the dent you put in his insurance policy.

I like your Mary Poppins riding style. We're with you, no basket though. We mainly ride through the neighborhood streets. It's a toss up which is safer to us, riding the main roads or the paths? :22yikes:

My second month of living here, I too was hit by a car. Thankfully, it was a low speed impact and only slightly injured my arm. The best part was that the man who hit me, was only concerned about the dent in his car. Neither he nor his wife asked me if I was ok. I'll continue to run and bike daily and watch carefully as everyone rolls by in their carts, cars or any other motorized vehicle they happen to have. The Villages are a fun place to explore under your own power - try it!

As one of those people who don't get off of their "dead butts," I have to say that not all of us lack understanding for bikers, etc., but beyond that I do fully agree with you. As for the poor guy who hit you? Well, all I can say is that someone who is like that is a...... (excuse my French)

I wasn't planning on bringing up this up but... I was on my cart this morning turning into a tunnel when 2 bicycles coming out of the tunnel flew by almost hitting me. They blew through the stop sign at the end of the tunnel to keep up their speed for the incline coming out. Of course, that made them go a little wide and into my lane.

I don't usually have a problem sharing the multimodal paths with bicycles, but they need to follow the rules of the road too.

texasfal 08-03-2011 07:43 AM

I hear you Logdog. I drive thru the circle at Piedmont and Springdale every morning on my way to work and frequently twenty or so bikers from one of the bike clubs uses the circle to get from the Piedmont gate to Buena Vista. Problem is they go around the gate and don't stop before entering the circle. I've almost hit them 3 or 4 times. And this is a bike club.

There are just as many inconsiderate bicyclists as there are inconsiderate car/golf cart drivers. Bicyclists should be on the utmost defense. Bicycles will ALWAYS lose.

texasfal 08-03-2011 09:41 AM

You are so right, George T.

villagegolfer 08-10-2011 02:22 PM

Does anybody know the condition of the bicyclist? Wouldn't it be great if follow ups were made known to the readers of The Daily Sun?

Boudicca 08-10-2011 02:35 PM

condition of cyclist

I too wondered about the recovery of the cyclist. How did he not see the parked van?

My guess is that while negotiating the round-about, he was distracted.
