There seems to be several unbiased witnesses. Law enforcement is pretty good at getting to the facts.

It's the reason I sold my bike within a month after having it shipped here. I had more close calls in that month than in the previous five years in Minnesota.

I am a strong advocate of

1) Driver's license renewal after age 60 every two years rather than every eight as it is now;

2) periodic testing (road and general knowledge) for every driver's license renewal after age 60; and

3) Strong enforcement of traffic laws AND more stringent penalties for those who violate them. The "punishment" doled out in Florida for violation of traffic laws would be laughable in just about every other state.

Second that idea about left turns on signal only. Anyone expecting drivers to adhere to the rules of the road as the Bible is deluded.

But in this case, if the OP's story is accurate, the problem wasn't the left turn it was the other driver running a red light. I've experienced that, though as a near miss, and can believe it.

:confused: What did I just look at and read? :shrug:

OMG, from the photo - the motorcyclist had enough room to swerve! He is young and perhaps hasn‘t been taught defensive riding. Doesn’t matter what light, as a rider you avoid anything in front of you.

Disagree. Never liked the idea of catering to the lowest common denominator. Teach people to drive correctly, DEMAND that they drive correctly, but don't punish us all for the inadequacies of the few.

In another thread there is talk of changing the inefficient timing of the lights at Lake Sumter. Now this comment wants to make all intersections less efficient by requiring me to wait for my light to cycle rather than turning left across an empty road.

I appreciated the flashing yellow heading south from Morse onto 44. That's gone now.

your correct there is absolutely nothing wrong with making the left turn if you do it the way your supposed to . The rule works everywhere in USA , but we should have to change it here, just like the roundabouts , , and don’t get me started on how many times I’ve had to honk my horn because people won’t turn right on red , FYI the guy who wants the rule changes for over 60 drivers should just pay attention to his own driving ,I’m in Orlando 3or 4 nights a month and driving back at all hours , I’m still going up to ocala to eat some nights and I drive to Miami every 4 or 5 weeks , I’m 83 no tickets and knock on wood no accidents , worry about your own driving and I’ll do the same

hmmmm sounds like lawyers pleading there clients case in the papers before the trial . I mean who does this , pleading your case on a talk site

One problem is that people know that, if you are turning left when the light is yellow and it turns red, you still have 3 or 4 seconds before the oncoming traffic will get a green light. So, some people will play the odds and assume that they have time to make the turn on red.

What is the other side of the villages ? You mean the Daily Sin ? Or does T V's have another site too ?

The OP has stated he is OK. The details of the accident appear to be in dispute. But more important, is there any word on the motorcyclist?

It is a computer news source for the Villages. Links from TOTV to it do not work.
