What if a group of people decided to go practice golf swings on the golf course because there was nobody there at some early or late hour of the day. Is that okay? Or would you tell them to go over to where the practice places are.

rules

I guess what I read from a lot of these people is, rules are made to be broken. Unless they are ones I agree with.

This is no longer t he truth ...it was never okay to have an organized group. Individuals can exercise but no leader is allowed. This was clarified today with John Rohan at a meeting at the Fernandina pool.

You are in a public place with no expectation of privacy. Personally I hope your pictures wind up on you tube!

No one can fault him if he wants to swim laps and the pool is empty. He may, though,be the type of person who would report a large group of neighborhood people exercising in the pool if it interfered with his swimming. He may complain to the Villages Recreation people.

Many women and men in our area loved meeting up in our local pool to do one hour of water aerobics three times a week. They all walked down to our neighborhood pool early in the morning. There was a lot of camaraderie and friendship. Everyone had a good time. Realtors showing homes would often stop in to our pool to tell their clients how friendly the area is and how we have water aerobics three times a week. But someone complained and this very popular activity was stopped. It appeared that a few people objected and were on their phones as soon as people showed up to do water aerobics. The irony is that these people are lap swimmers and serious pool walkers and they didn't want the water aerobics people in the pool. All the aerobics people made room for anyone who wanted to get into the pool. They stated this at the beginning of a session. Heck, half the exercisers were mostly standing around. The problem was that these other exercises needed a lot of room to lap swim and pool walk.

The sports pools may seem to be the answer, but they are not within walking distance, they are not friendly, and it is very hard to schedule things there. Water volleyball players are a tough group to work around. So a nice neighborly activity was affected by a small group of "other" exercisers. Most of the people who commented on this thread probably don't go to the pools in the morning, if they did, they would see that they are virtually deserted. It was fun to see so many neighbors walking to the pool every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings. Some people didn't even do the exercises they just came to chat!

Does anybody care that it is clearly stated by the recreation department that this activity is not allowed? Are you aware that most of us drive someplace every day for our activities here in The Villages?

And newcomers wonder why one would spend the money for country club pool upgrade or to build one's own pool at home.

The pools here are not for a person or group to declare its use to be something other than what is stated by the recreation dept.

You'd have golf privileges taken away if you decided to declare that _____Executive Golf Course will be used 3 mornings a week for your neighborhood golf scramble outing.

It's not yours to run how you like it.

Did you ever stop and think about why the pool looks "deserted" at that particular time/day of the week???

People quit going when they've been bullied by a clique that has taken over!

And they don't want to get into confrontations with people too brazen to be subject to rules!

Maybe that new card reader will solve the problem..................................

You know...you're probably right. If a golfer's golf privileges have been taken away for violating the rules (by running their neighborhood golf scramble 3 mornings a week on a given executive course), that restriction would show up when the starter shack workers scan the ID card.

Rules are important in order to have fairness and order. Sometimes the rules get amended to allow for change. As we get older we tend to become quite set in our ways and dislike change more than younger folk. It is often the younger people who lead these changes. They are not bullies. Change is happening all the time. Rules change. Change is good, right? Otherwise the world would be run by a group of grouchy old people.

Helloooo. The rules haven't changed. You aren't supposed to be having exercise classes in the neighborhood pools, no matter what you think is best or who you think is grouchy. It isn't allowed here in The Villages. It isn't your pool to do with as you see fit. It is our pool. All of ours and John Rohan is the boss of the pools. He says no.

So now bullying is just neutral "Change", with no negative repercussions at all.

Intimidation is "Change"?

Takeover is "Change"?

Disobedience of unchanged rules is just "Change"?

Greed for having more of a community facility for oneself/group is "Change"?

Now we see.

We are a small group of women who exercise in our neighborhood pools. we do not interfere with the other swimmers. Our doctors are SO pleased with our improved health. We are year round residents, who do not wish to stand in line for an hour or more to share a water aerobics class with the
"masses". We do not infringe on anyone else's space in the pool. What about the "noodle floaters" that encompass most of the pool space? Please do not deny us the privilege of pool use that is a privilege to all of us.
