Default Allstate Insurance Drivewise Program

I just got a bill from Allstate insurance stating that my rates went up $25. I called and was told that IF I installed their Drivewise device on my car, it would monitor how I drive and my rates might go back to where they were. The device is a little thing that plugs into the port under the dash. After reading several reviews on-line, I told Allstate I wasn't interested. I only found one positive review and about 30 negative reviews. My question is, how many local people have this on their cars and did it reduce your insurance rates?

I had one on my car for 6 months thru Liberty Mutual for accident forgiveness. I was able to monitor my stats online which measures such things as jackrabbit starts, too fast braking, any driving done after midnight (who stays up that late?), etc. Also contingent on no accident or speeding ticket during that time. After 6 months, I was permanently forgiven my accident and I mailed back their little plug in. BIG reduction in insurance rate!

If you have an accident, can the court subpoena the info from your monitor and use it against you?

Default Allstate Drivewise

I have the Allstate Drivewise devices on both of my vehicles. They monitor all activity - speed, braking, time of day, etc... But unlike Progressive, the Allstate Drivewise devices do NOT have a GPS - so they don't know if you're doing 55 on a 35 road or visa-versa. I was promised 20% discount. But will never get it. If I drive after 11pm, they deem that an unsafe time - so I lose part of the discount. If I drive too many miles, that's a huge reduction from the discount. If I stop too quickly because someone cut in front of me in a roundabout, that's another deduction from the discount. Too many reasons why I won't get the full discount. I doubt anyone gets the full discount. I plan to shop around with other carriers when my policy renews.

I found for me AAA was the best deal. Got all my insurance cheaper than just home owners at my previous home state. Ins. IMO cheap around here (car, cart, scooter, house) and that includes Sink hole coverage.

I've had Progressive for several years now. They gave me a better quote than Geico, USAA, and everybody else. I installed their device to get the maximum discount. As I recall, I only had it on my car for a 60 or 90 days before they asked me to send it back. I currently pay less than $500 per year for auto (100/300/100 coverage)

100/300/100-IMHO is the equivalent of not having any insurance--If you are found negligent what will 100K cover--nothing--you're bankrupt & you will lose everything you own

1 million and a 5-10 million umbrella is what is needed to CYA
