I just finished my long bike ride. Today is trash and recycleables day. I am alarmed how many people put their used newspapers in the trash pick up recycles rather than donatin them to a church charity. Let me explain my thinking, we have a private trash pick up company that also picks up recylceables. We pay these folks for their work and allow them to make money for their efforts. They do little for us, not even furnishing the required clear special plastic bags as many companies do. On the other hand there are numerous Churches in the Villages who maintain used newspaper collection bins, these being only for newspapers etc. These Church Charities sell the newspapers and the money received goes DIRECTLY to those less fortunate than we. It only makes sense to me what we all should be doing with our used newspapers..

Maybe it's because for years, in other states, groups stopped doing it because there was/is little or no money in it.

Would the Churches give us a bin to put the newspapers in?

St Vincent de Paul has a large bin for recyclables, but no telephone books.

A couple of weeks ago I ask TOTV for locations to donate newspapers rather than put out for recycle. Several suggested churches.

I drove to 4 churches all had dumpsters but NONE had any signage that "welcomed" public newspaper drop off. I was very reluctant to throw my several bundles of newspapers for fear of looking like I was using private dumpsters. If the churches actually use these for public raising funds they should at least put up a sign. Just my opinion.

Still have bundles in my garage, and will continue my search another day.

Doubt that. Can you imagine the effort to drive around TV and empty everybody's little bin? Who would pay for the bin?

Wouldn't this be an added expense for the church? You take the papers to the church..............shared expense.

You can also drive around the neighborhood and collect the newspapers from each person's recyclable trash and deliver them to the church. That's what I do.

St Vincent dePauls on 462 has a dumpster and will take newspapers.

Here are prices for recycled paper, by an Orlando company.

For newspaper, they pay 17 cents per 100 pounds. Or $3.40 per ton.

Based on daily market prices. Doesn't seem like a good fundraiser to me.
