Default Amazon Shoppers

As of May 1st, according to the WSJ, Amazon will start collecting 6% sales tax because they are building a distribution center in Florida.

This is good news and bad news; bad news for Amazon shoppers but good news for the state of Florida, which will now collect millions of dollars in sales tax and will add 2500 well-paying jobs. Two additional Amazon warehouses are planned for Florida.

Just more taxes out of our pocket. Screwed again but that is the way of the future. They just can't stop spending and waisting our money.

According to the WSJ Governor Scott postponed this twice, but gave up when they said they were going to build the distribution center.

Yup. But we don't have to pay State income tax. AND it will bring money into the state from everyone in the country who buys from Amazon.

I got so used to paying 7% or 8% tax on everything in New York, no wonder it seems cheaper here. Sorry to hear about Amazon though. However Jeff Bezos says he doesn't care whether he makes a profit or not, so maybe he will reduce prices on goods.

About a year ago we had to begin paying 6% PA tax when shopping at amazon. The year prior it was optional on our state income tax to estimate how much we owed the state for sales tax not collected on line. The concept must not have caught on with the honor system.

No, the tax will be collected from the people in FL who ship to a FL address, not from everyone in the country.

I was thinking about this and wondered if that were so. Thanks Gustavo for correcting my incorrect post.

It would have been nice.

I am willing to pay the tax,as I save a lot of money for gas,

I find shopping at Amazon great, as they deliver your goods, to your doorstep, Easy Peazy.

If I had joined "prime", I could have saved a lot of money, in shipping fees.

Oh Well, "nobody's perfect".

There is no time limit to join Prime. I actually bought a Prime gift membership for myself before the price went up last month and Amazon will be sending it to me next November when my current Prime expires.

You can also use "subscribe & save" to get free shipping on groceries and other items that you use frequently. You can get up to 15% discount on those items.

I, for one, am thrilled that Amazon is coming to Florida with their new distribution centers - taxes or no taxes! My son, who has lived in TN, working for Amazon for many years, will be moving to Lakeland as one of their managers! Will be so nice to have my son so much closer!

In all fairness, however, I shopped at and loved Amazon before he worked there. I've always shopped there first.
