Now if someone can explain how 2 1/2 minutes can effect ones schedule, please do because I don't get it. Chill out people. We're retired. We got all day and losing 2 1/2 minutes in your schedule will give you plenty of time to do all you intend to do today.

There is actually a company called Ride-4-Fun that puts a 7.5hp motor on gems, reprograms the controller, and sells 14 inch wheels. This combination has been known to increase GEM speeds to approximately 45 mph.

For info: Gem Car - Accessories, Parts & High Performance GEM Cars - We're the Direct Source!

I must have followed one in May down Morse as it was going 35mph across the Lake Sumter bridge and even faster south on Morse. In fact, many of the Street Legals that I personally have seen on TV roads were traveling at least 30 mph. But what the heck, I encounter the same on golf trails around TV.

However, what OP encountered was something entirely different. I sincerely hope to hear what the Sheriff's Office had to say regarding the lady who was in a "road rage" that could have caused you to have a serious accident. You were in the right and she was definitely wrong.

This thread scares me, someone please tell me as we have only been here six weeks, where is the proper place to ride my bicycle, on Morse or on the golf cart lane. I won't cut anyone off, nor will I give anyone the finger I am newly retired and just want to enjoy the rest of my life. I hope I didn't make a mistake choosing TV for my retirement home.

What We Have Here Is Plain Hypocrisy

Residents of The Villages are being told by some posters here to just go around street legal golfcarts and not to be concerned because they live in such a nice place. HMMMM

We have street legal golfcart owners whose vehicles travel under the posted speed limit on most roads creating short tempers by some drivers but yet these same street legals travel substantially faster than the required speed limit on golfcart paths creating unsafe passing senarios and placing pedestrians, bicylists and non-legal golfcart drivers and passengers in harms way...and then not expecting any reaction.

When this community first began development there was plenty of room to accomodate street legal vehicles but with The Villages approaching 102,000 plus vistors, plus locals, plus renters and their vistors it is like placing rickshaws on 466 and it is like placing race cars on golfcart paths. Can anyone say with a straight face that this situation supports the motto "Florida's Friendliest HomeTown'?

The mistake you are making is believing that everthing you read on TOTV is true.
Ride you bike in diamond lane or on the multi-model path and enjoy your retirement.
Welcome to The Villages, Florida's Friendlist Hometown......with the exception of a couple of nuts. No different than anywhere else.

Someone in an earlier post suggested "A monorail system" from square to square. This would eliminate traffic and give The Villages more of a Disney like atmosphere. Yes, it would be expensive to build but as the saying goes "If you build it they will come" It would also put The Villages on the map as the only place in the world like it.

"The mistake you are making is believing that everthing you read on TOTV is true."

You means it not????

Really sorry that you had two unfortunate incidences.

Maybe my "feelers" are just out, but the older population is not always the problem. I have found it to be quite the opposite.

This was an extremely friendly place to be when we first visited in 2002 (Lifestyle Preview) for 3 days. We made the move here in 2004 and it still was friendlier than it is now. Growth doesn't always seem to be all positive. It was much better before this community became a vacation/resort destination instead of simply a retirement community.

As for the LSVs and GEMs, they are not a problem as I can see. Too many drivers of cars here seem to think that 35mph is simply a suggestion, not a limit. I have encountered some of the same behavior as the OP for driving the posted speed limit in my CAR. Maybe some of these people need a definition of "limit".

There are still more friendly ones here, thank goodness, than the others. It all comes down to attitude. My daddy always taught us that "it doesn't cost a thing to be nice so do it".

Unfortunately, the ones who are rude and inconsiderate are probably not the ones going to read these posts. Even if they do, they will probably be like the little old lady leaving church one morning. She congratulated the preacher on his "wonderful sermon" and told him, "Everything you said applies to someone I know!"

Thanks for the welcome Bogie, and I think that is my mistake, and as far as "a couple of nuts" This forum is no different than any other either.
