Default Help me!!!

PLEASE HELP ME AND PLEASE SHARE!!!!
Since I started Lost Pets of The Villages, you have asked me what you can do to help me. Here it is... I'm making a call to action to all of you.
I need you at the Sumter County Commissioners Meetings. Yes, you read that right. There will be a lot of meetings.
The FIRST meeting is on the 22nd of August at 5:00 PM Colony Cottage Rec Center!
The meetings are the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the Month. The 2nd is at the Bushnell County Courthouse and the 4th is at Colony Rec Center in The Villages.
This affects Lake and Marion Counties as well.
It's time! It's time we come together and save our pets. We can do this together. We CAN go No Kill! When a Shelter is No Kill they find ways to find the owners and save the pets they are more willing to work with the community. As it stands now, no one can go in, no one can take pictures, no volunteers, and no transparency. Too many pets go in and never come out.
I'm asking you to come to the meetings to support those of us who will come forward and tell our stories. Each meeting you will hear personal stories, what No Kill is and means to our pets, what TNR is, and how and why it works.
This is not a one trick pony. This is NOT going to be easy. It's going to take time and support.
I am doing everything I can to keep your pets out of the shelter... Help me help you. We need a shelter that we don't have to worry about our pets going in. A shelter that we can easily find our pets. A shelter that works WITH the community.
I'm asking you to be there FOR me and WITH me. We can do this together.
Please share and get the word out.
Thank you!

Someone asked me if I kept count of the animals we have been able to save through Lost Pets of The Villages. I went back and did a count of Dogs.. Just from the photos. Not counting dogs we didn't have photos of , not counting the cats the cat group has saved or the wildlife Claudia has answered our calls for

Since July 2nd, the count is 24.

Default It is wonderful what you do but......

There are dogs that should not be placed as pets.

My sister an experienced dog lover and dog owner adopted a dog. The dog due to genetics, mistreatment etc, would without warning attack. Her vet told her the dog was high risk and should be put down and that is what she did AFTER, the dog bit her grandson..

That is unfortunately, true. But these are few and far between unless perhaps they live in a war torn country and have become accustomed to doing anything to survive.

No Kill doesn't mean a dog or cat is NEVER euthanized. It means they have to have a good reason to do so.

Sumter County Animal Control seems to have a lot of "sick" animals coming into their facility. Why do they have more than any other county?

If it's true that they have that many sick animals, which I don't believe, do you want your pet to go there if it gets lost?

What if they look at your pet... Molly is getting pretty old and can't see like she used to, and decide she is sick?

First of all - the word Euthanized is improperly used. The animals are slaughtered as in the cattle and pig industry or killed - but rarely euthanized.
Years ago, a poll was done and a high percentage of persons do not understand this word so it sounds like a welcoming death.

As to the killing of pets, the problem starts with breeding. Breeders should be taxed for their business like any other business. Calling it a "hobby" if playing with the animals life - it should not be a hobby - but a business of bringing life into the world and taking care of it.

IMHO, the commissioners should be persuaded to enforce business licenses and taxation to pay for the over abundance.
Of course, this will probably not happen as the AKC aka American Killing Club - Breeders will fight you every inch of the way cause they are enhancing the breed with genetic selection, blah, blah, blah.
