122,460 The Villages population as of March 31 in Lake, Marion and Sumter counties: 15,268, Lake; 10,754, Marion; 96,438, Sumter.
In my opinion this is the true population of TV. It is only available from the developer, by way of press releases given to the media.

128,754 The total 2018 population in The Villages metropolitan statistical area (MSA), which includes all of Sumter County, but does not include The Villages in Lake or Marion.
This is essentially the population of Sumter County. I wish they titled it Sumter MSA, not The Villages MSA. This number is readily available from government sources and is widely (erroneously) published as the population of The Villages.
