Default Anyone else treated like .......

You don't belong in TV cause you don't look your age?
During our recent stay at our villa, twice when my wife and I were at the Fitness Center at Colony, we had this happen. Each time, the people that confronted us treated us this way. The first time was when me and the wife got in the very corner area of the Fitness Room on the mats they provide at the center to do some ab exercises. The area we use for only 12 minutes, (yes I have timed it!) is 5 ft by 6 ft and is in the very back corner. We were told by several we were in their way and blocking one of the machines. I first thought what the heck difference does it make, if I am blocking the machine versus if I was using it for 12 minutes? Yet I times them the next day and they constantly were suing machines for 40+ minutes each! But they basically told us, we didn't belong there in "THEIR" gym. We saw them several times over the course of our stay at TV and each time they gave us that attitude. The next time, is the best one, me and the wife again were in our same little area and we had just used two of the hand weights. We put them down for a second and were preparing to do a 60 second stretch before using the hand weights again. This woman comes up to us and asks if we are done with them and I told her no that we were using them one more time after we stretched for 60 sec, but then they were free to her. Well she proceeds to walk over to the Attendent Counter and tells the Attendent about it!! Next thing we know the Attendent comes over while we are stretching and I had to tell her the same thing!
It all boils down to we do not get respect for being a Village resident cause we don't look old enough!!
I know we should not complain about that!

Nope, never happend to me. I train at Colony in the early evening-- not as crowded. By Villages standards I'm on the younger end of the curve and haven't experienced "age discrimination" there. Maybe I just look old!

Default For Whatever Reason

There are a few (thank goodness not that many) that think because they go somewhere daily that they have ownership in the place. Some of the pools are no different. I think they just need a gentle reminder that your ammenity fees count just as much as theirs and that all facilities are for all of us all the time.....not just when it doesn't interrupt their routines. You hang in there!!

Default You babies!

Not to worry Army Guy. If you just wait, looking younger goes away. I know. It happened to me!

Some people were NEVER taught manners which is just kindness. Period.

We do get very surprised looks followed with comments of. "Oh, you are owners" every time we check in to stay at our home. I do feel we are looked upon as visitors by most people who do not know us but no one has been rude.

And yes BlaZen - Our day will come when it will all catch up with us...so I enjoy it for now! And every wrinkle to come will be earned and well worth it!

The other issue, besides age discrimination might be optimizing the available space at the fitness center. Not quite sure I'm visualizing exactly where you were setting up for ab work, but I'm going to guess that it was near the hand weights. Although it is not self evident, the area by the mirror, where the floor mats are hung, makes an excellent ab workout area in terms of your safety and the best use of the small space in the gym. With the influx of people to TV in the coming weeks and months, it's even more important to make the best use of space to enable all members to get the most out of their sessions.

As to the age issue, I get the same treatment that I did when I was a kid looking forward to getting a few years older. Now, I'm trying to accept the comments a compliments. https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/images/smilies/redface.gif

Army Gury take from the Source in which it Comes. I spent 8 Wonderfull years in the Villages and Moved to Georgia because of my Husbands Job. Shortly before I left I was in Albertsons one day and the Woman in front of me was being so Rude to the Check out Clerk and the young lady was almost in Tears. So I spoke up and said to the Woman Please do not Talk to The young Lady like that. So she stared at me up and down and said I am a VILLAGE RESIDENT AND I CAN SPEAK HOWEVER I WANT.I had just got off work and was in my Scrubbs. and I said I am also a Village Resident for over 8 years so she looked at me again and said OH REALLY. I thought for a moment and I said I am moving out of the Villages in about a week because of PEOPLE LIKE YOU.WHO ARE MOVING IN. I then smiled and said Hope you have a lovely day and I walked away and she stood Aghast. She had no Idea I ws moving because of my Husbands Job. If his job was Not in Georgia I would most likely be in the Villages. I will never forget the Look on her face mabey she will read this and remember that day.

Default I agree with dillywho ...

that some people think they "own" the space they go to regularly. I have found this to be true at some of the exercise classes I go to. Heaven forbid you should stand in "their" space on the floor. I just figure that, eventually, since I'm here full-time, they'll get used to seeing me there and make room for me. Mean time, I keep moving around!

Chazz, yes it is the exact area you are thinking of, way in the corner totally out of the way.

I know I should be happy, but it just cranks my tractor!

Yes, the gym we got to her has this . . . woman who is always, "My Space!, My Space!"
