Default Anyone know what this compartment in my refrigerator door is for?

Inside my (new-to-me, one year old) refrigerator door is this compartment - I put butter in the right-hand side of it, but is there a purpose for the round compartment?

Yes, the ice goes through the hole at the bottom, but I'm talking about the round place at the top, which has a bottom to it, but what to put into it? It looks like it was designed for something. The manual doesn't mention it.

I found this picture of a fridge with that compartment, and stuff in it but it is hard to tell.....definitely butter on the right. It looks like something wrapped up on the left.

Aha! Just below it there is another holder and it looks like it has grated cheese in it.

It's a beverage cooler compartment. Supposed to chill beverages about 4 degrees cooler that everything else.

I keep my soy sauce in it. Sometimes my Worcestershire sauce. It's for a beverage? I love this forum.

Anyone Know This Is For?

I think it's for keeping cold things cold.
Now a thermus can also keep hot things hot.
But the big question is---How does it know?

We have same setup. We think the designers just wanted to take advantage of the extra space next to the opening for the ice cube dispenser opening. Why they chose to make it round instead of square is part of the Zen movement now sweeping the through industrial design professionals.

We also keep grated cheese container in that spot. Fits perfectly!

I learn something every day. I still don't know why my LG refrigerator door in-door model has and soda shelf that holds 3 1/2 can of beverage. Weird.

I love discussions about fridge doors and how to load dishwashers and the best kind of detergent.
Is the round opening tall enough for a bottle of white wine?
If not, I'd keep a condiment there.

We have the same refrigerator. I've always known that things in the door (freezer or refrigerator) do not stay as cold as things on the shelves so I question Ooper's comment about chilling beverages 4 degrees cooler. I'd like to know where you read that because we don't have the manual. Could it really be cooler because it's right next to the ice maker?

The place in the door is too short to accomodate a bottle of wine. Like anything in this world today, it doesn't matter what something was designed for. If you have a use or better use for something, do it! I use that "hole" for whatever will fit there. Currently, it's a bottle of bar-b-q sauce, but that could change tomorrow depending upon what's for dinner!

I don't keep Worcestershire sauce or even Ketchup (I hate cold ketchup on hot food!) in the refrigerator. You don't have to; check the labels and you'll see I'm right.

I'm a master at loading dishwashers. Years ago I worked for a Whirlpool distributor!
