Just saw this on the Sumter County Incident page....not sure if it's related...time frame seems to be a bit off.

TRAUMA ALERT
10/27/11 18:47 (THE VILLAGES - 800 TRS PS 2) ENGINE COMPANY 41 ON SCENE MECHANISM OF INJURY UNKN REQUEST AIR SUPPORT AEROMED 3 RESPONDING ENGINE COMPANY 40 LANDING ZONE [FLA074]

There was a helicopter overhead around 7 or so this evening. Wonder if it's related to this trauma alert?

First thing I noticed was that the stop lights were out as I got into the area around LSL. Thought that strange but didn't think too much of it. Then as I was parking behind TooJay's I saw a lot of people leaving and more walking to their cars or carts saying they were headed up to Spanish Springs. The stores at LSL were all closed and had signs in their windows that they closed becasue of power outage. Several managers and/or clerks where out on the sidewalk talking on cell phones I think trying to go ahead and just leave. Most of the Oktoberfest vendors were still operational because they had generators. The food vendors were very busy since most area restaurants had closed or were only serving drinks no food. After about 30 minutes the power came back on and many stores had reopened by the time I left at 7. It was a wonderful evening to be outside. I had great fun at both Spanish Springs and LSL.

Mike and I sat outdoors on our lanai and it was indeed a beautiful time of the day. Generally we can hear the music from the town square (Lake Sumter Landing) but with the power out, no music. I felt badly for anyone in town for the fest! Glad to hear that things got back up and running fairly soon.

Thanks for the info, Suzanne

I was just getting ready to stick my Dorito Pie in the oven and the power popped off. Ran to see if we blew a breaker, then a couple of neighbors called to find out if ours was off as theirs was also.

Lots of helicopters buzzing above us during the outage too. Or maybe the same one going back and forth...

I assumed the helicopter was a news helicopter watching the Oktoberfest. By 6:30pm everything was totally back to normal up on the LSL square. I didn;t notice the helicopters till around that time.

We did the same thing...checked to see if we tripped a breaker...and couldn't bake! Not sure if you used your grill to bake your Dorito pie, but it did work well for the mac and cheese. I only noticed one helicopter.

How did your dinner turn out?

I'm glad your power is back on! Will be interested to find out what happened, so someone please let us know when you find out. It'll probably be in the Daily Fun, but I'm not there.

On another note, I know TV continues to grow and seasonal residents are starting to arrive. More accidents I understand. Confusion at the roundabouts I understand. But I don't understand why so many reports of people seeing cars on the wrong side of the road. Who does that? Why does that happen?

p.s., Mac and cheese. :mmmm:

It was so quiet for a bit. We have so many background noises we don't even notice till they're not there....well, of course there's that annoying beep, beep, beep from the battery back up for the computer.

You're right, many are returning or arriving here new in The Villages and all need to pay attention to where they are driving and where others are around them.

People can find themselves heading in the wrong direction...they are new to the area, they are busy talking, not paying attention or maybe they really shouldn't be driving. Everybody, stay safe!

Mac and cheese was great! Even my son the chef loves his Dad's mac and cheese....good old fashioned real food! Wish you two could have joined us!

The Brits? :p

Oh wait! Now they'll all be mad at me. I only said that because we drove on the "wrong" side of the road when we were in England. It's danged confusing! We finally pulled over into a parking lot and called the car rental company and asked them to please come pick up the car. We just couldn't get the hang of it, even with me hanging out the window waving my arms and shouting, "American driver! Stand clear!"

We live within a few blocks of LSL. I noticed helicopters above (or the same one) 4 or 5 times.
We waited til the power came back on to bake, (it was DEElish!!!). We sat outside on the patio drinking wine while waiting and baking. That's why I noticed the helicopters.

Power was out about 40 minutes, but it was all the activity that concerned me. Generally you don't have two fire engines, an ambulance and the Sheriff all within a short time racing up and down Morse Blvd. Power was even out in Lake Sumter Landing Town Square. I can hear music now so things were just delayed for a bit for Octoberfest.

As Mike and I were dining on the lanai, one of our resident squirrels was out there.... I wonder just what part that little beastie played in all of this... :)

You didn't suffer a power loss in your area, Gracie?

The wife is babysitting out of town for a couple of days and I'm on my own. As all this was happening, I was just putting a bowl of Spaghetti-O's mixed with bologna in the microwave. Unfortunately, we didn't lose power.:rant-rave: (Actually, I could have made something but I was lazy)
