Yes! Unless you live in a Villa, you cannot have it as a lawn.

you mean to tell me that you guys in the villages are allowed to put fake grass down? here in sun city, our PORA would never allow that fake grass.

Not that it can be seen.

angiefox, please clarify

I am getting a quote for a small piece of artificial turf in the backyard of our CYV for the dogs. I think from what you wrote back a bit that it is OK inside the courtyard. Is that right? The company is Alternascape and I found it n the web. They use it in all kinds of situations and it drains well and seems easy to keep. It seemed like a good alternative to having some service come to cut the little bit during the season and worrying about lawn pests.

It looks like a great alternative to grass. I would be interested in knowing what they quote you to do the work. We also have a CYV and we are part-timers so the added advantage of not having to worry about lawn maintenance while we are away would be wonderful.

I have a card from stocf.com. They actually informed us that fake grass was not permitted in our front area while others insisted it was. They do a lot of work in The Villages as their website shows. Be prepared fake grass is more expensive than natural sod but it is more than worth it professionally installed. If I had a CYV I'd put it in. We've seen it in Vegas and AZ.

Got a quote from Field Turf

and it was more than twice as much as I expected, as we have to pay a premium for a small area. However the drainage bed that they build and the materials that they use are top of the line and have an 8 year warranty for labour and materials. The backing is full of holes so it drains very quickly and the fibers do not pick up odor so the rain keeps it odor free, although it can be hosed down if you want. I am still at the considering stage although it is looking very tempting.

Do you have a phone number for field turf? Or was it the company in Sarasota?

Did you get more quotes. Like everything else, you'd be surprised at the cost difference between companies.

Check with the Architectural Review Committee BEFORE doing anything. If you do not, you just may have to remove all unapproved artificial turf and put your yard back as before. Does not matter if you are talking a CYV or a house. You agreed to all covenants and restrictions when you moved in The Villages.
