Have you gone over, introduced yourself and shared your concerns?

croughwell 05-29-2022 01:21 PM

Perhaps this isnt the proper forum to complain. Or, are you trying to get someone else to complain on your behalf?

Rowdy at pool

Yes, there is music on Wednesday and Sunday. It’s all music from the 40’s to the present. Most people enjoy it and come specially on those days for the music. As for beer bottles, I am one who participates at the Ashland pool and in the year I’ve been here, I have have NEVER seen a glass bottled beverage. The dog has been here on only a couple of occasions and he wears a service collar and belongs to a 92 year old veteran. The dogs that are barking are from outside the pool area and are being walked by their owners. If this is not your cup of tea, please visit the 100 other pools and allow the residents of Ashland to enjoy themselves these 2 afternoons a week.

msilagy 05-29-2022 01:58 PM

The dog is a service dog. Pete's caretaker (Pete is 92 years old) brings him over on Sunday with the dog. The dog doesn't bark and does lay next to the caretaker. Some people need to get a life. Barking comes from neighborhood homes. Only 2 polkas on his playlist. HAPPINESS AND FUN IS A PROBLEM FOR OLD GROUCHES!

Bigmike18 05-29-2022 03:04 PM

I am a regular at the Ashland pool. The person that plays the music is a great person. He has a love of music and a great play list.
His selection of music is vast and if you ask him he will play anything, and any type of music you request will be honored.
We have enjoyed the music over the years, and often will go to the pool because we know he is playing that day. The music adds to the atmosphere, and the normal friendliness of the Ashland pool .
We have never heard the music loud , and it never interferes with our conversation , or our enjoyment.
Now if there are in fact glass bottles or any glass, as the original post stated, that just can’t be allowed.
As for dogs, people in the villages take there dogs to many places that they should not be allowed, but that is a discussion for another day.

This is the best advise. Record them first. Then go to John Rohan and ask him if this is acceptable behavior at a community pool. Good luck to the original poster with this.

If it is a regularly scheduled gathering, the rec department can easily send someone to witness the behavior and then take appropriate action. However, keep in mind the Villages has a habit of non-enforcement. Best of luck.

Do you think John Rohan will let this behavior slide?

We had an incident last night in our village where a couple returned home around 10 pm with friends arriving in another golf cart and they decided to turn their pool speakers up to 11 and party until 1 am.

These aren't 30 year-olds, they are probably late 60's. For some reason, some people think they are above rules and decency.

Some people are a-holes in their youth, middle-age, and golden years.

Letter to your noisy neighbors.
Dear Neighbors, hope you had a wonderful once in a life time evening on the night of (date and time). I can assure you that none of your neighbors appreciated you being so thoughtless. This absolutely is the place to talk about something that is ruffleing your feathers. You will get support, counter comments and jokes at your expense. Have fun.

I dont know....I guess I have to disagree. It's Saturday night, it's a holiday weekend, people are in need of some fun....I guess my 2cents is close your windows, turn up your air and put in your ear plugs. Give the benefit of the doubt...if it becomes a weekly thing, that's different, otherwise just be the bigger person and zip it.

Teach142 05-29-2022 06:03 PM

This is Wednesday and Sunday afternoon. Usually the music is there for about 2-3 hrs. Most people go to the pool on those days for the music. People need to stop commenting on things they know nothing about. There is no wild behavior. Whoever has a problem with this, get over yourself. Those that want to, come join in on the fun!

joelfmi 05-29-2022 06:28 PM

I have nothing against having fun nor music nor dogs (I have one) but I can understand the rules. The intent is to create an environment suitable for ALL residents in COMMON areas for ALL to enjoy. I suggest that they have these parties at a more suitable location, maybe on one of the greens at the golf course. Surely no one would mind that

Well the OP asked where the closest pools are so I responded with my answer. Trust me I don’t put up with BS . Someone who posts this on social media has no ability to stand up for themselves. I was just trying to give them a solution

I go to the Ashland pool and the music starts at 2:30 - 3:00 on Wednesdays and Sundays. It starts out at a pretty low volume and as people begin to leave about 4:30 or so the volume increases a bit. People dance in the pool and overall it's a fun afternoon. I have never seen a dog barking there and that should stop but it has nothing to do with the man who brings the music. Have never heard polka music played. If you don't like it on those days jump in your golf cart and go to Bonnybrook 3 blocks away or the Lynnhaven, and Churchill pools also very close. Don't complain about something many people enjoy on those 2 afternoons for a couple of hours! Go early or someplace else and sit in silence on Wednesday and Sunday. After reading all the posts the people responding are not getting a clear picture - no one is rowdy, it's not kids doing this and it's not a boom box. It's an older gentleman, a nice guy, and the people are seniors not rowdy younger ones. The dog should go if it's barking at people and I can't imagine whose dog that is as the gentleman that plays the music does not have a dog. The person that comes by to check ID's laughs and joins in on the fun of music - MUSIC - folks! Not POLKA music all kinds of music which supplies much happiness in life. You are misrepresenting this situation - Please go somewhere else on those afternoons and don't try and ruin it for others that enjoy this!
Update about the dog: The dog is a service dog. Pete's caretaker (Pete is 99 years old) brings him over on Sunday with the dog. The dog has never barked and does lay next to the caretaker. Some people need to get a life.

I agree...... Just some old fogey with nothing better to do than complain about people having FUN!!!!

thevillages2013 05-29-2022 07:32 PM

To OP — I’m thinking I would ask for free cold beer (from the participants) “or I’m “SHUTTING THIS PARTY DOWN” !

Quiet hours are very clearly listed as starting at 10pm on the residential paperwork we all sign.
Garner enough PD calls regarding one problem residence and there will be action taken, I assure you. The Villages, lack of enforcement or not, will not want the public record of having police calls/issues.
I would record it, just incase it later becomes contested. Climb up the chain of command, until it gets squashed, there is no excuse for it.

BigSteph 05-29-2022 08:30 PM

I am the bigger person..... that is why I showed restraint. I wanted to throttle the neighbor and his friends. My wife said I could give them a heart attack.

I was like, yeah, but after the EMTs leave, I bet it would be real quiet.

Flame guns are a euphemism for the folks who will reply with a snarky comment just because they can. Scroll/block finger is
when you either block the snarky person or just page down.

We ran into the loud music group once and found it very annoying. We now go to Churchill but will use Ashland as we used to now that we know the days to avoid.

I believe that dogs that are not certified companion dogs are not allowed in Village pools. Dogs that bark at people in a circumstance like that are pathetic. If a dog is out of control, it is because the master is to blame. A barking dog could feel that it is protecting its territory, but the problem is that , especially with some breeds, that barking problem can turn into a biting problem.
........As far as people go.........I have seen some really bad individual behavior at a Village pool and also there are some clique groups that will gather in one area day after day and take ownership of that area. Also, I have been bothered by loud music from time to time.

Take some Mace (or make your own pepper spray) and as you walk by the dog - "accidentally spray some close to it.
