Is Miz Kathi's still open looked closed last time I went by

Laurawilcox 12-19-2023 07:06 AM

Yes Miz Kathis is open, just interesting hours.

Yahala is amazing, Donut King has spoiled us for eating donuts elsewhere, My Sweet Cakes in Brownwood for cupcakes, Florida Porch in Leesburg for Royales and peanut butter cookies

Red Rooster Cookie Jar in Lady Lake has the best cookies - great flavors. Also a great selection of brownies, scones and sweet breads.

I agree. I'm from western ny and as far as I'm concerned there are no "good" bakeries down here. I wish I could get a loaf of Dicamillo's bread. I'd pay dearly for it.

To many diabetics!

I have lived in the Villages since 2005. Always bought my bread from Publix until recently. Read the ingredients carefully. They have listed a questionable ingredient lately. I stopped buying bread from them. Aldi's has good Italian bread with only three safe simple ingredients.

A Wish of Two Ago in Eustis is worth the drive. A French bakery with wonderful breads, cakes and pastries. Look up their facebook page.

Two suggestions

Publix really does have a good bakery department. Yes, I was surprised.
The place in Brownwood is ok but way over-priced. Ten dollars for a slice of cake.

Since you did not say how far around The Villages...keep Hellas in Historic Tarpon Springs on your go-to list. Great Greek restaurant and bakery. Fun location to visit, walk, sight-see, and enjoy for an afternoon. Buy some natural sponges while you are there.

If you're looking for bakeries that serve sweet things like donuts there are several. Not too many for bread type things.
Donut King in Leesburg. The name pretty much tells you what you're going to be getting. Have a bottle of insulin close by.:mmmm:

Their Rugelach is not the same as they used to sell. I won't be purchasing them any more. :(

The black and whites used to be my favorite now they taste like really old cardboard. In Brownwood the case is almost empty everyday. And desserts look old and dry.

Family bringing down Katz’s, and other wonderful things in January. Whooooo rye, bagels pastrami corn beef everything in between
