Default Having all floors replaced in house

for those of you who also had done, do they usually complete one room at a time or take up the existing flooring and replace in two different days?

While it was 3 years ago they removed every piece of furniture from the house put it in garage, lanai & outside fully covered up., tore up all old flooring (mostly carpet and "linoleum" in kitchen and baths) and put in all new which was tile in the 2 baths & litchen and wood laminate in the rest. All done in one long day. It's a 2/2 so if you have a larger home YMMV. There were about 6 people doing the demo, the 2 doing tile and 6 doing laminate. Very well orchestrated.

Can hardwood floors be placed over tile floors?

Had all carpeted floors replaced at once. Big crew came in and did whole house in 2 days. We had unloaded china cabinet, bar, buffet ahead of time and emptied all closets. (What a job that was BUT great time to get rid of a lot of stuff and Salvation Army picked up) Also removed everything on tables like lamps etc. The crew moved all the furniture. 3 bedrooms, closets, living and dining areas and lanai all done with rigid core luxury vinyl plank that looks like hardwood and people who visit touch it to see that it's vinyl. You clean with swiffer duster and then wash with water only. So much easier to keep up than carpet. We went with a light color and the house looks a lot bigger too. We used Royal Palm Flooring in Summerfield.

The stuff they call real hardwood here is not what I would call hardwood. It is very thin and it would probably reveal the tile grout joints through it. To me, real hardwood is about three quarter inches thick and nailed down to furring strips.

Thirty five years selling ALL types of flooring both residential and commercial qualifies me to respond to your comment. The "thin" stuff as you say is not only REAL hardwood but far more dimensionally stable than 3/4 solid as it is also in furniture construction. Solids cannot be installed over concrete as they are designed to be nailed to a substrate. I will guarantee that any hardwood floor installed in Florida will change color over time, usually fade but depends on species. Laminate floors are just as stable and far more scratch resistant than either hardwood or vinyl plank. Vinyl plank is more moisture resistant, particularly desirable if you have a pool.

Might be better to ask the installer.

We currently are having our whole house done. We are putting vinyl hard core. They prep the floor first and than put the vinyl flooring down. We are using P&L Kitchen and Bath LLC. Great customer service. Caring and careful about your furniture and things. Would highly recommend.

Had whole house done. All rooms tile, except two bedrooms are carpet. It took 3 weeks and then some.

How it is done may depend on if you are currently living in the house. It was easier for us to have it done room by room. We just moved furniture around as installer worked. Not a problem for us at all.

I've always redone floors myself while living in the house, so always one room at a time. There usually is off gassing from all types of new materials so I make sure to air them out of packaging as long as possible before installing. Good luck with the install!

Gee, I thought you were talking about replacing the subfloor. My manufactured house has the old fiberboard subfloor, which when it gets wet turns into shredded wheat like stuff. Already went through over a sheet of 3/4 plywood to replace part of it. I know I have more areas that need to be replaced. BTW, we had laminate flooring over it, which now has to be ripped up through the whole house!

We had 3/4 of our house done. Went right over tile with cortec plus(cork backing) vinyl plank flooring. Bedrooms with carpet got backer board to even out the floor with tile.
All in all it was a messy 4 day install(only 2 guys). They skim coat over grout lines so your tile is no longer good but who cares. I have lived in Florida my entire life and i absolutely hate floor tile and the dirty grout. We liked it so much we decided to finish the entire house. The 2nd install was 2 days, which in my opinion could have been done in one day. Some companies will not go over the tile. In my opinion only, this is a ploy to make more money. It will cost you a lot more to have them rip up the tile then it will to go over it.
Not to mention a huge mess. The dust was bad enough putting down the backer board, can't imagine it with them ripping up the tile. As far as hardwood, i am not a fan in Florida because of humidity. Plus the cost is huge. Good luck, and be prepared to sneeze a lot.
