Take them to small claims court for harassment. You have it well documented.
Then they will back off.

File a complaint with the Florida Attorney General's office. They usually quickly reverse their stance rather than answer government suppeanas .

Spectrum sent us a $126.70 bill for July anyway, claiming that we had the service on the 28th and thus owe for the whole month. We have been back and forth ever since, with it now escalated to a collection agency.

Sequence of events:

June 16: I Called Spectrum at 1-844-504-9266. Talked to Jen. and she agreed to discontinue service on 6/27.

June 27: The Spectrum internet and TV signal went off. I packed up the equipment and returned it to the local Spectrum office.

On July 8. I Got a bill for Spectrum service in July. Called Spectrum. Talked to Tara. She said the account was discontinued, She said she canceled the bill, and will refund the money for the Cloud DVR (Separate issue)

August 3: Got a bill from Spectrum dated July 31 for $126.70 for the period 6/28 - 7/27 which includes the $10 refund for the cloud DVR we never got. Oddly, this is over a month after we lost the signal.

August 31: Called by Spectrum debt collection saying that we owe for the month of July as we did not cancel the service until June 28th, the start of the billing period. I argued that we asked to have the service cut off on the 27th, that we lost the signal that day, and had already returned the equipment, and she transferred me to billing. I talked to Karen. I repeated the same statements. She said she will have to send this to the phone records department and it will take 7 days.

September 9; Called again by Spectrum Rep wanting the $126.70, I explained again the sequence of events. Lost connection in the middle of the call.

October 28 we got a letter from the collection company. I called and explained again.

November 5: sent an email to the collection company outlining the above.

December 15: Another letter from the collection company, this time threatening to bump it to a national credit bureau. Sigh.

What if you paid the bill then disputed the charge with your bank telling them you only paid to avoid a credit report ding. Would that work? I've never done it that way but you never know.

Everything is done by computer automatically these days. I guess the lesson to be learned is to cancel well in advance of the shut off time, ideally, a month in advance.

We’ll can’t explain what happened but I guess you should of just paid it then fought it even if you did have to pay a lawyer. Then at least it would of maybe hit the papers. It might of got enough attention to hurt Spectrum or got you out of the bill but it sounds like you had service the whole month of June. I had Spectrum when we live there & I discontinued the service when we moved but was going to discontinue them anyway because our monthly bill was pushing $200. a month. To me these type of of utility companies don’t explain their services well enough. Bet you’ll end up paying the bill. Good Luck!

you may be in the right but hopefully next time you’ll cancel a couple of days before , over the years I’ve gotten pay premium stations for free for 3 months because of moving on when I get NFL ticket I always cancel at least a week before 3 months are over so there no chance of being billed

You still have cable?

MrLonzo 12-18-2021 03:59 PM

Class action lawsuit, anyone?

Spectrum's products are good, but I'd bet they're customer service ratings would be even less favorable than Kamala Harris. Problems aren't restricted to Florida. There are probably millions of dissatisfied Spectrum customers all over the country with similar experiences to yours. And in most cases, cable subscribers have no alternative. The dropped calls are just one of many guerilla tactics they use to frustrate complainers.

If anyone has the time and inclination to file a class-action, count me in!

Next time, don't just call. Do an online chat. This way you will have a printout for proof.

2 issues:
1) June 27 was a Sunday…was the store even open in a Sunday?
2) If it was, and you returned the equipment that day, you should have a receipt from them proving you turned it in that date. If you don’t have that receipt, then your problem, and you owe. If you have it, fight it.

If Spectrum said they owed for June & they had service for 27 days & only 3 days left in the month why shouldn’t they paid for 27 days? You can’t wait until 3 days before it’s due then think you don’t owe it. Cable isn’t paid a month in the whole. So why wouldn’t they owe with only 3 days left in the month? Unless I’m missing something about when their bill was owed!

Pretty sure you pay the month in advance on your bill...

Edit to add: Just checked. Yes, you do...

You mean your bill was $126.70 for 1 or 2 months. Are you kididing me? Dish will go up to almost what Spectrum was in 1 yr. & within 3 or 4 yrs. you’ll be paying between 120 & $150.00. Did you read the fine print?
