When we moved from Oregon to The Villages in fall of 2019, we joined Sam's Club, retained our Costco memship, and got a free 6-month trial membership at the Clermont BJ's.

We had 7 Costco's within 25 minutes of our Oregon home, and had no convenient access to Sam's, and there wasn't any BJ's at all in Oregon.

We never renewed our BJ's, and we frequent both Sam's and Costco here in Florida.

We'll of course checkout the new BJ's, but will have to wait and see.

Does the Groupon offer for membership start now or when it opens? The $25 offer says it is contingent on renewal. Can you opt out after a year?

I utilized the offer and it began immediately - instead of when it opens :(

Did you really mean to say that once you sign up your credit card can only be used to renew at BJ's??

If you are trying to say that BJ's can auto-renew using your card, that's fine with me. The first time the auto-renewal is abused I'll simply cancel that card. I've had auto-renewals with many companies over the years and never had a single problem. There's always the first time, but I'm still waiting.

I can't ever remember since moving to TV 20 yrs ago doing the lets go on our once a week fill up the shopping cart run

I would not travel 60/70 miles to get to one either but fortunately, that is not a concern. Wile the nearest BJ's is only a little over 30 miles, the new store will be opening near Sam's which is only 12 miles.

Even with a tiny family of two there are many things to buy at the wholesale clubs (Sam's, BJ's, and Costco). If it isn't for you, that's fine, but is serves many of us well.

No need for a jet. Portland has 8 Costco's.

Not needed. 7 Costco's within a 25 minute radius, drive time.

Portland Metro area.

Absolutely true assuming one liked it enough to renew. We didn't (up north) so we stuck with Costco and SAM's so we SAVED the $55. :D SAMs was 1/4 mile from BJ's on the same road and both were about 3/4 miles from our former home. Then our daughter joined and she put us on her BJ's account and we have been members for free for the last 10+ years although I think we went there maybe 3 times in all those years. :1rotfl:

My sister and I shared a BJ's membership for several years when we both lived up north. She kept it after I moved down here, but there was no BJ's near me in the Villages so I joined Sam's. They had a special where you could join for $45 and they gave you $45 Sam's Club credit. $45 worth of free stuff for the win. Great hotdogs. Didn't buy much else the whole year so I didn't renew.

Sister still has BJ's, there's one where she lives now in another part of the state. Now that there's one going up closer to me than Sam's was, AND with golf cart access, I'll probably share hers again and give her half the price of her membership.

You can always opt out of auto-renewal after you get your membership ID.

Fine print of offer:

Offer not valid in the
Chesterfield, MI; Madison Heights, MI; Taylor, Ml; Lansing, Ml;
Ross Township, PA; South Fayette, PA; Pensacola, FL; Port
Charlotte, FL; University Park, FL, Cape Coral, FL; Lady Lake, FL;
and Ft. Myers, FL, clubs. Not valid with other offers, discounts,
or Groupon Promo Codes.

Buy the membership in Clemont, then use it in Lady Lake. The Groupon makes no sense. You may need to go to Clermont for breakfast items with coupons. A BJ membership should be good at all BJs.

Bj's membership

I'm confused and hope someone can clarify the Bj's club membership posts. One post states there is a $20 groupon for club membership, but the fine print says it can't be used in the Lady Lake location. Another post gives a link to a $25 Bj's membership but it says valid in Lady Lake location only. Are any of these deals valid in all locations or must one buy both deals to be covered in all locations. Thanks for any input
