Default Black Widow Spider

Our friends who live in TV have a black widow spider residing in a planter in the back yard. It appears the lady is making a nest. What's the best way to dispose of a black widow.

It depends on whether she is trying to get your husband. ;D

This linked site http://www.ext.vt.edu/pubs/entomolog...2/444-422.html
suggests using a vacuum cleaner, then removing the bag, then tossing the bag away.

"Removal: If you discover a widow spider in or around your home the safest way to remove it is with a vacuum (hose attachment). With a vacuum you can remove the spider, the web, and egg sacs all in one safe step. Be sure to remove the bag from the vacuum immediately after use and throw it away outdoors."

GET THE EXTERMINATOR AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE!!!! OMG I do hope that we never experience the likes of that. I'm so paranoid over any kind of spider, even itty-bitty ones. Arggggggg ....b aka "sissy"

Barb,

sometimes it is the small innocuous looking spiders that can do the most harm. My daughter was bitten by a tiny brown spider while driving her car. It turned out to be a brown recluse and the infection that developed was horrible. She had to have the bite lanced and poison drawn out but she has a huge scar from where the skin died around the bite.

Personally I despise all spiders and I cant distinguish the harmless ones from the dangerous ones so I try to avoid them all! YUKK!!!

Oh Nonie, so sorry to hear about your daughter's horrible experience. I shudder at the thought of it. Bless her heart; she survived, thank goodness.....b

Always keep a few snakes around the house. They drastically reduce the number of rats, spiders, and other little hassles one encounters.

We just returned from a 2 week trip to Connecticut. Before we left I bought a giant bag of garlic... It was on sale and I couldn't resist, but I accidentally left it in the garage. When we came home from the trip the garage positively reeked of garlic, but there was not one bug to be found in the garage! No spiders, no ants, no box elder bugs... NOTHING! It's as if I vacuumed the whole garage! (I won't even leave my car windows open in case something lurking in the garage should climb in and try to attack me when I'm driving on the interstate) If you don't mind your garage smelling like a deli, you might want to give it a try the next time you find garlic on sale. I knew it kept away the vampires... but spiders? Who knew? :dontknow:

The only way to make sure is to take your sandal off and whack it! They are really slow. No since in worrying weather they are still alive in the vac bag.

My friend (the husband) feels bad killing it! His wife, is going to do it!

My question is doesn't pest control applications take care of this stuff? That's what I thought companies like Massey's was all about?

I can't stand bugs either - any size or shape! And it 'bugs' me when people say spiders are good because they eat other bugs . I would think whatever they eat is smaller and weaker than them, so I'd prefer to just have some guy kill the spider and take my chances with the spider's dinner plans.
Besides, isn't there a wise saying from some movie: "that's what men are for - killing bugs and moving heavy objects!" Every time I call Mr. Travel to kill a bug he quotes that.

There must be a booming crop of black widow spiders this year.

We have been warned about them here too.
