We recently moved and my suggestion is to think about leaving your stuff at home. Unless it is real personal. With estate sales and consignment stores here you can find all you need for a fraction of the moving costs.

Toss most of it, go to uhaul dot com and use their packing and loading help, or uship dot com if you have less than a truck full.

Check the fine print on the insurance. I used a company that self insures. So basically, the company self investigates any claims. Interviews the crew chief of the truck and then gives you a really low ball offer on any damages. This was not a good experience. The is the best advice I can give you.

You can't trust recommendations or reviews for movers. We did that. One bad (new?) guy on crew damaged most of our furniture. Go with big reputable company in my opinion. Get full replacement cost insurance with $0 deductible. Our move was almost $7k. After my significant claim effort, they wound up paying over $8k in damages. So in other words, they paid us $1600 to move us and damage most of our furniture. Take your own photos before move and make the delivery people stay as long as it takes for you to inspect everything or get them to sign that they wouldn't stay that long. Good luck!

I would not trust any long distance mover ever again. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR and consign, donate or have estate sale, retaining only things of personal Value. Carry personal, financial, jewelry, irreplaceables in your car with You. Then BUY ALL NEW HERE ! DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH UNITED, SUDDATH, MAYFLOWER.
I moved here in 2018 from Maryland, contracted with UNITED-SUDDATH, Who packed my stuff. Surprisingly a third entity “MAYFLOWER Van” appeared on moving day to carry my goods in a carrier large enough for Mine +2 other households. It cost me $9,900 and I had $56,000 of insurance for breakage and loss. THEY ARRIVED 5 DAYS LATE AFTER DELIVERING 2 other households.
A LOT WAS MISSING, LOST OR STOLEN. I had to file claims and wasted a year of my life fighting with UNITED, SUDDATH AND MAYFLOWER ( 3 entities) I ONLY GOT LOUSY $2,000 CHECK for all of the theft, loss and damage ! They broke, kept, or stole some expensive, sentimental or irreplaceable items. They WRAPPED AND SHIPPED BOXES OF DISCARDS We’d marked TRASH. NECESSITIES MY FAMILY PACKED, WRAPPED AND TAPED SHUT, LABELED WERE MISSING. I wasted a year writing, photocopying, sending photos, and making claims—ALL FOR NAUGHT.

We sold most of our furniture because we were downsizing. The house we purchased in TV needed some work so we used Pods. They store your pod until needed. We delayed moving in for a few weeks to give us time to get the house ready.

Bring your favorite bread. Really no good Italian bread here.

He did not know the company he was hiring was a "broker" and outsourced his shipment to three different companies. The costs increased from 10K to 30K. I kid you not. Why I say this is to be very careful as to whom you hire. Make sure they are picking it up and delivering it to your home. Not additional sub carriers. There have been numerous complaints against these moving brokers who don't even own trucks. I'm using a U-Haul and moving my stuff down in NOV.

James Dolsey unloaded with his buddy. Both work at furniture stores. They did a fine job both times. PH# 434-610-8247
