Dealing with Villages Insurance has been a nightmare. We got our "We're dumping you" letter from Progressive in May for our HO policy that would have run out in October. At least we got advance notice. Last year it had jumped from $2300 to $4100. House is only 13 years old with a perfectly good roof. When I contacted Villages Insurance (our agents for this policy) to find a new company, I was given an appt date ... for AUGUST 21! Unacceptable. Everyone knows you don't shop for HO insurance during the height of hurricane season. They will not write policies if there is an active storm in the ocean.
So on my own, I did research. Most of the big companies are no longer doing HO in Florida and we were forced to get a new roof to get ANYTHING. We ended up with Kin. I immediately cancelled the Progressive policy and got a refund for the remaining months. Now Progressive is telling us that because we don't have HO or car with them, they will also not be renewing our umbrella policy. Our car insurance is with Travelers as it was cheaper than bundling with Progressive. Asked Villages agent if we could get umbrella policy with Travelers. They would but only if the home is NOT in a Trust. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!
What a racket. Now I will be looking for a different car insurance company that has agents outside of TV that can also do umbrella. I am so done with Villages Insurance Group.
It has been a stressful couple of months, but at least the roof is done. Total cost for roof plus removing solar panels and reinstalling them after: $25,000. Shouldn't have had to worry about it for a couple more years. If nothing else, it will make the house easier to sell. LOL
