My parents retired in 1984 in Spring Hill, Florida in a community called Timber Pines. It's located on US Hwy 19 north of St. Petersburg near Weeki Wachee Springs where they have the mermaid shows. The community was started in 1983 was built out around year 1998. They have 1200 acres with 3 golf courses and about 2000 homes. The home styles are much like TV's and residents drive their golf cart on the streets.

Timber Pines is completely surrounded by a 8' masonry wall and has only two entrances with are both gated with 24 hour security. Unless you leave a visitor notification at the gate, your guests cannot enter. I lived in Spring Hill for about a year in 1989 and I can remember in just that year alone Timber Pines had at least a dozen home burglaries. So even with all their security they weren't able to prevent them.

Find it very hard to believe a Villager, if an addict, would shoot up in the pool restroom instead of their own home. One person makes an assumption and now it is a fact?

I still don't think that fact has been established for sure about The Villages...( As in Heroin.) There are a lot of people here addicted to alcohol, just like anywhere else. I know of the meth lab that two young people had in a persons attic who was probably very gullible.

People make a lot of statements here and get all excited and most of the time it is just talk.

Most of us are retired and a good share are smart and aware of what is happening. We are watching out for each other.

But people are still people here and the sins and foibles that most people face in their lives continue well into retirement. But I think we are a pretty decent group of good people.

I'm re reading this thread and there are specific comments I read before that are now gone. Does this happen often on here?

It happens when people post things that are mean spirited, derogatory or directly demeaning to another person. If you find a post that is objectionable you can click the red triangle in the upper right-hand corner of the post and send a message to the moderator. They will review and possibly delete the post.

Or sometimes people post things then remove the post themselves for various reasons.

Gun violence. Not at all.

It was just a satirical juxtaposition to your comment on people in other (gated) communities not being prepared, as follows.

"You could run to a gated community but those may be the most vulnerable as they think nothing can happen within their walls and may be unprepared, access can be gained at any time."

Earlier, you indicated the gun post was supposed to be humor so I wasn't prepared to consider the post as just plain ole satirical juxtaposition. Sigh....
