Just got this email about the break-in. This is definitely the house on Allaire. I removed personal information so that the homeowner's name and house number are not available.

"Thought everyone should know, our house was robbed while we at the grocery store. Only gone about an hour. Took cash and jewelry but search all drawers and closets. Even took tools from garage and broke open a small safe with just important documents inside.

Got in by prying open slider on back of house. Police came and got a lot of finger prints off door and safe. Hope they catch the sob.

We're ok but feel violated.

Tell all neighbors to be on the lookout for strangers in the area."

Sounds like they may have been targeting this house (maybe a worker who had been inside and knew there were valuables?) and watching to see when the homeowners were going out. Imagine if they'd come in while the bad guy was there. I'm so glad they're safe.

I want the Sun to provide the information to me in the form it is currently delivered and that would alleviate any angst against the Sun in the event something is missed or misstated. I could tap into the villages dash news anytime I wanted a police blotter fix.

I think you might be right on here Peachie. Leave the Sun as the "feel good" recreation newsletter and have a more direct informational site. It would also, as you say, get everyone off the Sun's back regarding printing "the bad stuff."

One of the reasons some people are reacting the way they have with this thread is because of the misplaced opinion they have had of The villages such as comparing it to Disneyworld. "Indeed it is as painful to be awakening from a vision as to be born." ( James Joyce)

As indicated in previous posts I am very guarded and this topic is one reason why. "Who knows what evil lurks in the heart of men? "the shadow knows'"

I would prefer to error on the side of people jokingly reporting a crime on TOTV than to ignore it. I say this because it seems remote and not motivational to want to report a false crime, and it has the benefit of reminding me to stay aware and alert.

It has been a concern of my since arriving that employers, including the Developer do not do a sufficient review of the people they hire.

combine this Disneyworld view of residents with an less than vetted workforce and add in easily available valuables lying around, sparse policing and you create the perfect storm.

Break-ins have been occurring before I arrived and have only increased since both north and south in TV.

House robbed on Adrienne way

I have lived here for approx 13 years, and what people have been posting is totally foreign, and I speak with many many folks in the course of a day. It just seems the "reports" are coming from "newer" members of TOTV, in some cases if you read past posts what seems to be an agenda.

Any adult who runs to TOTV to yell crime wit so little attempt at validation bothers me.

If wrong...sorry, but my gut usually sends me in the right direction

I know for a (FACT) that the house was robbed and the front door kicked in
in on Adrienne Way because I live across the street and seen the damage
with my own eyes and talked to the owner.

To prevent entry from our "slider" door, we inserted (in the track) a 2" wide board around 36" long. It prevents the door from being slid back.

Yes there were TWO very close there. No one disputes that. But what I STILL don't understand from the posts on this forum was there a third in Sanibel? We all heard about the one yesterday in Fernandina. In a previous post, Angie Fox mentioned several others and her post was the only time I had heard that there were several others south of 466A. Has anyone heard anything about the rest of those crimes?

'

I've heard of four now (two might actually be the same home, not sure). One I know of as fact. I'll believe the email I received since it had the homeowner's name and address and I do know that there was at least one break-in on that street, possibly two. The other two that I've heard of fall in the someone told me category, so not as sure although my sources are very reliable.

Of course, the easy way to confirm this is to call the Sumter County Sheriff and ask. (I'm too lazy and really do have full confidence that the perpetrator(s) will be caught.)

After reading some of the responses to the OP in this thread, I would have to think long and hard, before I would post a message informing the forum of such an incident that came to my attention. I wouldn't be surprised if many other "silent" watchers of this thread have gotten the same message that I did. I thank the OP for informing us and for enduring doubts cast on his integrity.

Sorry about what happened to you. Hopefully the police will patrol more in the area.

I understand that, but these people aren't robbing homes when people are home. How do you turn on your five and six shot when you're away. I still say, get a security system.

Based on the redundancy of comments it may be members are more interested in sharing their opinion than sharing???????????????

Personally, I want to thank the OP for alerting us to this crime and to the poor victims for wanting us to know this happened to them. Although it scares me to hear of these crimes, it also alerts me as to be smarter and don't take anything for granted. I remember a few years ago when there were a couple of robberies near Stillwater and Morse (I know these were true because one of my good friends home was robbed), our neighborhood met to discuss how we can all help each other. One of the men cut the poles for us to put in our slider doors so they can't be pried open and we discussed various things we as individuals should be doing to increase our security. At that time, I ordered motion lights for my lanai and outside my house and we were all on alert watching each others homes. Sounds like a good time to do that again.

Yes, crime happens everywhere, especially in most of the cities I lived in, and not much crime happens in The Villages, but that doesn't mean we should put our heads in the sand and not heed these warnings.

I agree with you, KathieI.

I've had a motion light sitting on my desk for many months. I always thought, "I will install it next time I'm in Swimdawg South". Thank you for reminding me. Next time is here!

I also have a camera that I can install and check out my house online. I'm always so busy when I'm in TV.....and it's easy to say, "I'll install it next time". Yep....next time is NOW!!! No more procrastinating.

You're right about low crime in TV....and it's easy to "put our heads in the sand" and merrily go on our way.

This has been a huge wake-up call!

Not quite accurate. Originally Happinow, who lives in Sanibel, said there were 3 burglaries in Sanibel. She was talking about the third one, and several people disputed that she knew this for fact, she does, and someone even inferred a lot of "new" people were posting and not to be trusted because we were new. I was pretty sure you were in on that thread, Gracie. Happinow was quite clear that there was a 3rd in Sanibel.
