Cellphone service
Does Verizon work in The Villages generally, and in the Rio Ponderosa Village specifically? If not what cell service works best?

Re: Cellphone service
Barring the fact that Verizon really ticked me off and I won't be renewing my contract with them when this one's up, I haven't had any problems using Verizon anywhere in TV. (Really wish I could say otherwise!)

Re: Cellphone service
We have Verizon and never had a glitch while we went all over TV during our March visit. Used the VZNavigator GPS feature too.
redwitch what happened that you're so annoyed with Verizon?

Re: Cellphone service
Have two phones with Verizon -- mine and Jess's. Wanted to change one of them to a local number. Yes, I can do that IF I get a new contract. The problem with the new contract is that it is $20/month higher and 200/minutes less.
It would seem that if someone has been with you for over 6 years you'd find a way to change one phone line (the secondary line, of course) rather than lose the business. Not Verizon. So, as Flo used to say, "Verizon can kiss mah grits!"

Re: Cellphone service
That's usurious! No wonder you're miffed I remember when we had Cellular One/Cingular/AT&T I requested a change from another area code to our local area code and they happily executed my request immediately! If I were you I'd fire off a scathing letter to those greedy :edit: eg. chairman & board of directors of Verizon Wireless ASAP.

Re: Cellphone service
We have had Verizon for many years and when we moved here we changed both our phones to 352 area code with new numbers. We didn't mind signing the new contract for two years because we planned to keep Verizon anyway. We kept the same package, even though they don't sell it anymore and we are very happywith Verizon.
I have heard of a few people who turned in their Verizon service because there is a part of the Villages where Verizon did not work. Don't know if it is still true. That was about six months ago.

Re: Cellphone service
We use Sprintpcs with no problems. Had my sons number changed to local with no change in contract and no charge. We use cell as our only phone now. Using our old home phone number.

Re: Cellphone service
I have Cingular service (AT&T), on a Blackberry Curve, quad band GPS phone. It works every where in TV. I have not found any location that is a problem. I like it as when I travel anywhere in the world (except Japan) I have coverage, good signal, and my local number follows me. If someone calls where ever I am it rings. It works in Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Denmark, UK, Scotland and I am sure many others. Do remember to turn it off at night or someone may call in their local time zone and for you it's 3 AM. Only issue I have ever encountered (overseas only) is that if someone calls and leaves a voice message when I have turned it off, it sometimes doesn't show I have a message waiting. So I usually will check it once a day to see when traveling.
