I agree, that is why I was being a bit sarcastic. It surely would apply to anyone that "forgets" to take down their lights. How many times do you drive through a small town and see the ice cycle lights still hanging?

Hopefully not 30 days!

Usually (for me) lights go on Thanksgiving night and stay up until Three Kings Day -January 6th.

The light display on Dunkirk off of Odell starts tonight. There are 11 homes participating this year. It is one of the most extraordinary displays I've seen in a neighborhood done by private citizens. Come out tonight for the kickoff party and bring canned food products to donate to their cause. It is honestly breathtaking. All set to music. Last year's was indescribable.

Don't forget the Cottom Farm's display and the houses along the way that put on a show that nearly rivals Dunkirk's. I'm impressed.

Here is a link to a discussion about the lights in TV and the surrounding area from TOTV last year: https://www.talkofthevillages.com/fo...ust-see-46321/

LOVE the decorated neighborhoods, especially when the homes all coordinate and do it together! It's a family tradition to drive around to view the lights. The light shows such as on Dunkirk are fun...but get a bit crowded on the street (could be dangerous actually) with folks parking on both sides of the street and then congregating in the middle to chit-chat etc. Wish we could just drive past slowly w/o having to worry that someone will unintentially walk out w/o looking or a small child do the same. NOT being a grinch here as Christmas is one of the most wonderful holidays we can observe. Just stay safe, folks!!!

I was thinking that it would be great if all the houses around the lake near the golf cart bridge did displays facing the lake. It would be really cool for everyone using that cart path as well as the people driving on 441/27

There is a street in the Hampden district of Baltimore where all of the residents decorate their homes in full-out Clark Griswold style and it has become such a city attraction that it snarls traffic for blocks especially on weekend nights during the Christmas season. Apparently the homeowners have also gotten together and agreed to a apply a deed restriction to their homes that a future buyer would have to agree to participate in the yearly light festival or they couldn't buy the house. In some ways it's really something to see and in another it's so over the top as to be far too much.

A couple years ago there was a big to-do about the display because Baltimore City police had begun showing up to direct traffic there on the weekends because of the huge volume of people showing up to view the displays. Some local grinches raised cane about "city tax dollars being wasted", but eventually the grinches were quieted. And the displays have gone on.

I vote for the poster who's going for the full 39 days!! Have at it!!

We saw the light show on Dunkirk tonight (Saturday) and the lights at Calumet. Both were spectacular.

Maybe someone will start a thread with just the addresses of the displays...it would be really great for us Village newbies.
