In the Christian Greek Scriptures ("New" Testament), Acts Chapter 15 identifies Jerusalem as the "headquarters" (as it were) where Jesus' Apostles and other mature Christians would be contacted for decision-making affecting all the congregations (in this case, the circumcision issue). Years later, after the Apostles had all perished, various circumstances led to Constantine's attempt to establish Christianity in Rome as a uniting force (with various councils meeting to agree upon what would become official doctrines and creeds of the church that would be referred to as "Catholic" (which translates to "respect of the whole" or "universal")). Because between the time period of the former and the latter, there is no record of a large and dominant Christian organization, the Church as it was set up in Rome is viewed by the Catholics in my family to be directly descended from the original practice of Christianity as recorded in the four Gospel accounts and further organized into congregations throughout the region after Jesus' sacrificial death and resurrection as shown in the various New Testament epistles. They therefore view it as the original Church, which would make it NOT a denomination, so there would be no need to have that declared by anyone. Only those who do not believe it to be the original Church would refer to it as a "denomination." While I personally believe that substantive changes took place between what was established in Jerusalem and what was established in Rome, I admire Gracie Girl for sharing and defending her faith (shown to be a Christian practice throughout the New Testament) while avoiding participation in dialogue that could turn argumentative and subject this thread to a quick dele. |

Non Denominational Church
[QUOTE=IRISHGIRL3US;1925576]Does anyone recommend a non-denominational church?[/QUOTE
I would recommend New Life Christian Church CR 462. Try it on Sunday at 9:00 or 10:30, and make your own decision. |
I attend Village View Community Church. It is non-denominational. I thoroughly enjoy it. The preaching is wonderful. I am a member of the praise and worship team, which is contemporary. There are services on Saturday at 5:00 and Sunday at either 8:00 (that one is a more classical service), and at 9:30 and 11:15. It is located at 8585 SE 147th Place in Summerfield (just outside of the Villages). You can get more info on the website at villageviewchurch.com This is truly a non-denominational church, and I think you would feel very welcome here. Hope you will come visit!

Non denominational church
We attend Life Church in Fruitland Park. It is an Assembly of God and is based on Biblical truths. We were new there 6 years ago when we first came to The Villages and were welcomed warmly and have developed lasting, supportive friendships. The worship is uplifting and messages inspiring and challenge us.
We also tried The Fathers House in Leesburg, liked it but knew our home was at Life Church. |
I am a Catholic but I have joyfully attended services in many denominations over the years including Jewish. I found God in all of them, and in the faces of the people who attended.
Every time I read that someone is looking for a church, I suggest mine. Mine sometimes has wonderful musical events, but maybe not during Mass. (service). Mine sometimes has fun food gatherings and has social clubs but mostly Catholics do not socialize quite as much as many other Christian denominations. It is just a habit. You will find those folks to be just as warm and/or ornery and good and bad as any other bunch of folks in any other church building. I love my church, and there is nothing wrong with any of your wonderful churches. |
A Thought
I grew up in a Methodist Parsonage as our father was a Methodist Preacher for nearly 60 years. It started out in the poor Coal towns of Western Pennsylvania and ended up at one of the largest Methodist Churches in North Carolina. We were taught that every person should chose their churches as they grew up and not just because they were born into that religion. In one city we lived in my father would, once a year trade pulpits with the local black church and also include the exchanging of Choirs. That way we could also learn and appreciate and understand other congregations. We learned to accept all people into our lives whether and regardless of their ethnic background or color, etc. I would submit what church you attend is of less importance than your personal commitment to the many great teaching of the many different religions. Sometimes I think it is best to just pull into the first church you run into, park and attend their service. Its a way of removing bias and extending knowledge.:ho:

I am interested in what the purpose of a non denominational church is? I have never been in one. Is it vague Christian ideas, or broad across the world spiritual thinking? Or investigation of various theories? If it’s just to be with people, I prefer the neighborhood pool myself.
