Omaha Nebraska's Cinco de Mayo festival draws a quarter of a million people. Who knew? Wonder what the count was between LSL and SS. SS was partying until the end.

It's just an excuse to party and drink and listen to music and singing in a language that so many of us don't understand. I sat at SS with friends last night and the ongoings were just pure torture.

On the bright side ..... it was good to people watch. Better than Wal - Mart.

You're wrong on that as well. It isn't Mexican independence day. That's September 15. What it IS, is the commemoration of Mexico's victory over the Second French Empire at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.

You get almost a Full Evening of FREE Entertainment and you Whine about 15 minutes of Dead Air, no wonder we Villagers get a BAD reputation and are called Entitled.

What's worse, is that people here are making fun of the entertainment - when most of the entertainment was brought to you by your own fellow Villagers. Those belly dancers probably practiced their routine for several hours a week, for several weeks, just to perform for you. They only got 15 minutes scheduled to do so. They had no way to know that the sound wouldn't work for them.

Nasty nasty attitudes - no wonder there are fewer groups offering to entertain lately.

Yes, I am continually surprised that people going to free entertainment, often provided by armatures, expect professional level of service?

Something that we can agree on…….

It’s that “what the hell?” attitude!

Velvet 05-06-2022 10:44 AM

No, I guess I just don’t have high expectations in the first place.

SS Cinco de Mayo 'party'

Another 20 minutes of dead silence and then they bail on the next 'belly dancers' act. Hard to understand what possible "technical difficulties" went on for that to happen. If you were there with friends I guess you may not have noticed, but as a single person looking for entertainment, it was BAD!!! Sorry for the rant and hope most of you enjoyed it more than I did.

Looked like Vendors night to me, but during daylight. Very disappointed! Long lines, little for mexican food, just dead hot air!

Sept. 16 is Mexican Independence Day, a day commemorating the moment when Father Hidalgo, a priest and leader, called for Mexico's liberation from Spain in September of 1810.

:bigbow:

You must have gotten there later after all the "technical issues" that led to LOTS of silence.

What I have a real issue with is the fact that parking is a nightmare at these squares. There is no consideration for residents that are handicapped. It’s first come, first served mentality. There are many times I’d like to visit the square and listen to music, but I cannot because I am unable to walk from the parking areas. No services provided for handicapped people to get from the parking lot to the square. The availability to visit the squares is limited to able bodied people only. Now with the influx of new residents, besides the seasonal snowbirds, it’s nearly impossible to park. Three squares does not accommodate all that live here.

Good point. I mostly go to a further parking spot since I can still walk easily. That issue should be addressed.

Playing a track is not a huge technical feat. There was no power outages, the speakers worked fine before and after. They obviously got the track playing later, so it was just baffling to me as to what could have gone wrong. I am not entitled, just expect professionalism, like I held myself to do my whole career. I know crap happens, but hard to imagine what prevented them from pressing "play".

That makes so little sense, I can’t even respond

Maybe you could contact “they, them” for an explanation to satisfy your baffling.

Good grief, she’s just sharing what she observed and expressing her thoughts. Is this no longer allowed on this forum? Enough of the PA replies

Nahhh, they've been doing the same routine for as long as we've been here as have the twirlers and they have it down to a science. Biggest problem is they’re shrinking due to attrition, and soon they'll be the Belly Duo and the "MonoTwirler". [sorry, please don't hit me with that tomato, I admit, they are "cute"]

The cassette tape bound up. Took a while to rewind it with a pencil. :icon_wink::icon_wink:

Having been a helper for a DJ in my previous life, it is not just a matter of pressing "Play". Amateur performers put their music on whatever media and in whatever format they find convenient. There are so many different combinations that it is impractical to have the ability to play just any DVD, CD, tape, or SD card on the fly. Even if you have the right equipment and driver software, the person doesn't know what spec they created it with and the DJ doesn't have the time, with an impatient audience, to sort through the possibilities.

Nucky 05-07-2022 07:01 AM

It was just to give the crowd a preview of what it’s going to be like once SS goes silent because of the apartments. We were there. It was fine.

PurePeach 05-07-2022 07:16 AM

Band was Stella Beat and they were fabulous!

I was there, she doesn't . They moved up the other acts. Much ado about nothing.

Joe C. 05-07-2022 07:36 AM

Well, I know that at times I can be crabby, but I think that the band "kinda sucked".
Maybe if the music wasn't so damn LOUD, it could be more enjoyable. And I'm partially deaf.

These are groups that perform in TV on a steady basis and should know what kind of media the TV Entertainment staff wants. By the way, it wasn't a DJ but a trained professional sound person who deals with the sound equipment on a daily basis.

Been here over 15 years. Entertainment— what a laugh. Very, very boring. Seeing how boring, you either get drunk to get through it or stay away. We have stayed away for 14 1 /2 years. We do get some good band for the dancers but nothing for special days. First Christmas tree lighting— eke gads. A big tree with big red plastic bows and some lights twirled around it. You only get cheap stuff. The trick is to squeeze out every penny for the bottom line.
