On topic I hope... will be moving into our new home in Feb. Hope we chose the right kind of shower tile/grout which will minimize stains/watermarks etc.

For those folks who seem to have issues with shower stains - do you have a water softener? We plan on installing one shortly after our move-in.

We did have a water softener when we still had tiles and grout. In the shower, orange stains appeared in the white grout. We now have a solid surface enclosure and no longer have the water softener. Orange buildup still occurs, though not as much and it's easy to clean from the shower finish. The orange has something to do with what's in the water and not whether or not the water has been softened.

I had a roman shower in my previous house and basically nothing really easily worked and everything else worked with a lot of elbow grease and scrubbing. My new house has a solid surface shower without grout lines that cleans very fast and easy. Live and learn. Roman showers look really cool but in my opinion are not worth the added effort.

The roman shower is one of the favorite features in our home. We use Mold Armor from Home Depot to clean up the mildew. Spray once a week or so, wait five minutes and rinse with a hand held shower head and it does a great job without too much elbow grease.

I chose our house because it had a Roman shower. Just love it. I dry it off with a towel after I shower. Hubby uses that spray stuff that is supposed to keep it clean. But I try to shower after him because I think drying it off works like a charm.

We have a water softener. We've used this shower for over a year and have never had to use elbow grease. Or any cleaner. Just rinse with hand held shower and dry with a towel. Takes only a few minutes.

We turn on the fan when showering, let it run while dressing and spray he floor and lower walls with Lysol mildew cleaner; don't rinse just leave it dry. Have had no issues with either mold or mildew in the 1 1/2 years we have lived here. We don't squeegee at all (no glass in our shower). Used the same process in our last house for 7years with no issues, only difference, we had to squeegee the glass door.

I agree with CFrance. Dry yourself off first. I then use the face cloth and wipe down everything (easy to wring out) then wipe down with the big towel. Our 7 yr old shower is like brand new. Can't beat that!
