I don’t live within the Villages proper, but yes, I had to get approval for the door color.

Problem is with the color translation when you view it digitally. It is difficult to see the accurate color when posting a picture because the color is changed. Highlights are washed out, shadows are darkened. Some screens blue down. I usually take a photo of my hand and compare the picture to my hand under the same conditions to identify the differences. Anyone who paints from photos sees these problems all the time. In other words, what may look as quite dismal on my iPad, may look attractive in real life.

John, the impact of your living room (which looks very well appointed to me - I think your wife is right) may not translate as well digitally as the your outside walls which are much warmer colors.

I like being comfortable and big (bulky as you say) leather reclining furniture when I watching my 75" TV. So you don't like Oriental, I do like Oriental, but I don't like Persian rugs, I like modern contemporary.

You style is different, but I would never say publically that I that your style is drab. In fact, why don't you post a photo and let us all see your wonderful home and it's decor.

I said the house (itself, not the walls inside) is a light blue. I'd never use light blue for interior. And the light blue of the outside of my house is a bright light blue, not a subtle pale light blue. I said the oriental was an exotic touch that should be a FEATURE. That means I like it.

You seem to be having difficulty with my post.

This entire thread exists to trash peoples' taste. That's why the first post, and several others, are criticizing the color of someone's house. If it's okay to trash a house belonging to someone you don't know, why is it not okay to criticize the decor of a house belonging to someone you do know?

Your oriental touches are great. I don't think they belong with blue walls and huge bulky furniture, or with cream or yellow, or that rug. They look like they belong in a whole other setting. You should put some Georgia O'Keefe prints on the walls of that room and maybe put the orientals in a den or study, with natural materials and colors for furnitures.

The only way I can figure out how to upload photos here is to give access to my google account gallery. I'm not going to do that.

I disagree with almost all that you have written about John's design choices.

I am having great difficulty with your post. Perception of good style is not a right, it is an educated privilege.

Many of us are on Facebook and people can see there what their style choices are. Some people are absolutely incredibly skilled at their choices of color use, placement and size. And others are not, but they live in their home and enjoy it. The use of primary colors and the use of certain styles of furniture painting require a lot of skill. Very few have it. But when the owners of the home and the designers of the room walk into that room it is joyful to THEM.

Perhaps someone can start a new thread on the topic of personal interior decorating styles and likes/dislikes.

I really enjoy talking about home decor and personal style. Many people do too, here and everywhere, as evidenced by the success of HGTV.

Please. Someone start a new thread with some pictures. I can't get over some of the amazing homes here and many do take incredible license with traditional design "rules" and do it VERY well. That takes true creativity and amazing perception. Everyone loves their home and tries to make it as lovely as possible and everyone has different taste. It is so much fun to be invited into so many varied and beautiful homes of every size and style choice.
