Prefer buying from a store so we can try on without shipping back and forth.

Sketchers

Wife loves her Sketchers. The issue with them is that Sketchers do not seem to have the durability compared to New Balance, Brooks or Hoka that I wear. Yes, I know you will pay just a little bit more for those big 3 but with that comes the comfort and much better value overall.

Last year I bought a pair of New Balance walking shoes. The soles were so thin that they hurt the bottom of my feet when walking on asphalt. It was lucky that I bought them from Amazon so I could return them. The New Balance customer service was terrible, and apparently, they have no return policy.

Your statement near signature saying "God doesn't roll the dice" was a topic in a book I reads a long time ago titled The Ghost In The Machine by Arthur Koestler.
You attribute it to Uncle Albert. Was it in that song as well?

Rich42 11-29-2023 10:07 AM

I bought a pair of Sketchers new model called “slip ins”. You just step in and out of them without having to bend over and they are very comfortable.

That's too bad. My New Balance 840V4's have been all over Europe and I am still wearing them today. I can understand if you are buying the Kohl's $60.00 variety.

The ones I bought were Model 813V1, walking shoes, for $85 on Amazon.

A good place to look for walking shoes is All About Feet on Canal Street close to Sumter Landing Square. Raiker is a very good brend.

Dgodin 11-29-2023 01:12 PM

There is a sketchers store in the Rolling Acres plaza

Ferndad 11-29-2023 02:35 PM

Sketcher Slip ins are like walking on a cloud and very easy to get on and off. No laces to tie.

I suggest trying on a pair of Hokas. Your whole body will thank you. It took a few days for me to notice the difference. My feet, knees, hips and back all feel better after walking in Hokas.

Agree but where do you buy them around here

Jazzcat 11-29-2023 02:44 PM

ECCO brand

ECCO is the only brand of shoes I wear. I absolutely LOVE their sandals, and their golf shoes too! Shoe Biz on 441 sells them and there’s also an ECCO outlet at the Tampa Premium Outlets in Wesley Chapel that has great sales.

THANKS everyone for the suggestion, lots of choices. We even have Sketchers WITH and WITHOUT the "T."

William MacEntee 11-30-2023 06:23 AM

I looked at Walmart shoes and could not find the unbranded sketchers. Do they have a name, the $29 shoe you mentioned.

Shoe biz and fleet feet in the villages both carry Hokas.
Otherwise the drive to Ocala is worth it.

LOL. I know that some posters don't like to be corrected on spelling, but when someone misspells my name, I always correct them. The correct spelling of the company is "Skecher" not "Sketcher".

In the old days, if they didn't have your size, the saleperson would automatically tell you that these shoes run small or large depending on what they had in stock.

The laser "gizmo" identified the unique characteristics of each foot, which helped the clerk determine the best type of shoe for my needs. What I failed to mention was that they also have a large selection of orthotic inserts to provide a custom fit for those that may need more specific types of support. This approach is likely the closest we can get to custom builds without the services of a cobbler. I did not require them, but my wife chose a set that provides a very precise fit. As I get older, foot comfort has become increasingly important to maintain an active lifestyle.

An alternative to Sketchers

Try SAS in Brownwood. Someone there can measure your foot (old school) and you can try on what you like. They’re cushy shoes that feel great even though they cost a little more than Sketchers.

The best shoe stores EVER are Becker’s in Mt Dora and Shoe Biz!

It was amazing how there are so many slight differences between the left and right foot. The analysis indicated the type of shoe that would best serve my needs, and the store staff brought out several pairs so that I could try various levels of cushioning. The winner was the Hoka with the mid-level cushioning, which worked well for my wide feet. I was so impressed that I brought my wife in, who was also measured and found that the Brooks model was the best fit for her narrow feet. Both types were more expensive than the typical sneakers, but were very well constructed and fit us properly. For us, there will be no more hit or miss, trying on shoes from a stack of boxes.

Spenco 'boot' style insoles can breathe life into almost any pair of ill-fitting shoes. they have the arch support Tinker spoke of. (the regular sneaker style soles aren't as good-it must be boot style, they can be cut to fit)

I could never have afforded to even look at Lobb bespoke!
I have some custom Loake shoes, They are a lot more sensibly priced.
I spend most of time now in Trainers (Sneakers?)
Comfort now wins over sartorial elegance.
Though my dear wife says I still scrub up well when the occasion calls!
