Attorney fee coverage only.

It looks like USlawshield only provides legal services; not insurance against damages or judgements. Is this correct based on your understanding?

Yes, that is my understanding. The program pays all attorney's fees for both criminal and civil trials, but if you lose they do not pay any damages or judgments rendered against you.

They also cover mistrials and retrials, but not appeals.

Coverage includes "use" which is not necessarily firing the gun (pistol or long gun) but may be the simple lawful display of the gun to discourage an aggressor who is threatening you.

Basically, this is coverage for attorney's fees, and for immediate (24/7) telephone access to an attorney if you have an incident. They also give you a wallet card with the statement you are to repeat to the police investigators to hold them at bay until you talk to your attorney.

They also offer seminars on Florida Firearms Law (in our case) and a book on Florida Firearms Law as well as access to a video library and an Attorney/Member Forum.

Minor children (unlikely in The Villages) can be added for a fee, and multi-state (all 50 states and DC) coverage can be added for people who travel for an additional $35 a year.

You can sign up for a monthly newsletter at no extra cost and can contact the Program Attorneys with non-emergency questions.

Thanks for that clarification.

No stats just my belief. I'm sure you're right but that still doesn't ease my concern about arming the population of The Villages.

I recall going out with my niece and her fiance, a leo. He always carries. I felt like I had a private body guard. Not bad. Now I know how wealthy people feel with their bodyguards. BTW, he is a big proponent for citizen CCW as are many leos. Senior citizens are one of the most stable and law abiding groups you could pick to be uneasy around regarding ccw. But I get where you are coming from; dementia, paranoia, short temper, forgetfulness...dang, now I'm getting nervous!

Firearms can be insured under a Personal Articles Policy. Check with your insurance agent for details.
