Default Construction question?

I'm always looking for added storage space in my garage. Has anyone ever opened up the box that your AC/Heater sits on? I was thinking of cutting an opening and putting in a small louvered door.

Wondering if there's any plumbing etc. in there.

Thanks

On some systems that "box" they're sitting on is the return air plenum. If you see a return grill low on the other side of the wall or you see no return air ducting this is probably the case. Investigate further- rarely is space wasted!

The box mine sits on contains a few lines but some extra room. I opened it up, put two sliding doors on and it has room for four file boxes. Living with no basement and not much attic makes every little bit count.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. My setup has a separate cold air return plenum on top of the box. I think I'll open it up and take a look.

Sometime ya just gotta take a chance, right? No guts, no glory.

Ditto.

Also, you could walk through an "under construction" home of the same floor plan and see how all the duct work runs.

I opened up the short end of the platform because the side facing the garage door has the AC drain and freon lines in the way. Great place for long stuff like shovels and rakes etc.

What! Didn't you have enough room in there for a snow blower?
