I use Waze and have never had an issue and have never seen a gate without card access, not that you need it.

We moved into DeLuna 3 weeks ago. Both car GPS programs- Waze and Google Maps refuse to route us through any villages to our destination. In every instance they take us around The Villages- 301 to 466, etc, then into the final village if that is our destination. One day it sent us 15 miles to get to a place we later figured out was only 2 miles away- through The Villages.

Today we were on 466A and wanted to go to the Village of McClure- we had no idea how to get there. It took us to 301, then Warm Springs, then to McClure. We noticed at the round-about that we could have gone down Marsh Bend Trail- through DeLuna instead of around. It has NEVER taken us through The Villages to get to our destination. My wife thinks the Apps are avoiding gates because not everyone has gate cards.

Any way- has anyone heard of this? Is there a setting to fix this?

Thanks!

I live in Deluna near 301. Sitting at my house I put directions to Lowe’s on 466a in both Waze and Maps. Waze had me go out marsh Bend Trail to the light at 301 and make a left go down to warm Springs and then back up to Meggison to Powell to 466A. It said it was 13 miles. Maps, however had me go out to the light make a right turn, go up to 466A and Lowes is 6 miles away so maybe the issue is Waze isn’t up-to-date? Because those directions make absolutely no sense whatsoever.

If I ever want to go down to McClure, I would go out to the light make a left and go to warm Springs. I would not go down marsh Bend Trail even though it’s a shorter distance it’s much slower because of the speed limit.

I had a similar problem of my GPS avoiding gates. Once I found shortcuts through the Villages I wet those routes with my Google maps on and ignoring the directions a few times. It will get a little annoying since you will that voice telling you to turn around. Explore with it on and it will to learn youcan use those gates. Hop this helps.
Mine is pretty good now even in the new areas

For overall perspective, ask your Villages sales rep for maps of The Villages or go to a country club and purchase them. I use gps, but I like generally knowing the roads so I can tell if gps is leading me astray.

You can send your issues on Twitter for Maps

Correct. Your GPS doesn’t understand the concept of private gates where you need a card or need to press the red button. It shows the streets if you go there, but it won’t route you there. At least mine doesn’t. It sends me around to gates with attendants. But if you know where you are going, use the gates you want, and your GPS will catch up in a few seconds. I don’t think my GPS has ever kept me from getting somewhere, but it has unnecessarily lengthened the journey. A couple days ago, driving back from Ocala on I-74 to highway 44 and then home, I went the way I wanted instead of the way my GPS wanted me to go and saved six minutes!

Choose “directions” rather than “start”, when the map appears it will have all the streets and you can make your own route.

We had the same problem for a couple of years. Google and Garmin take a while to catch up to The Villages new streets. We are also near the Turnpike occasionally, and Garmin thinks we are on it. Directions are .. interesting. Yes, definitely get a paper map or follow The Villages App on your phone until other maps catch up.

Give it some time. This is a common problem with new homes and apartments. I had a brand new condo in NJ and it took 3 years before my address appeared on any gps. When I moved to TV almost 6 years ago it was a new development and I had the same situation. Fortunately it did get on gps pretty quickly. Hopefully it will be the same for you.

No, Wase is pretty good. However, you can install VillagesGPS on your smartphone specially if you intent to have a golf cart or ride bicycles

A couple of suggestions. First, make sure your device settings are correct for things like shortest distance, etc. Second, The maps in your device must be updated periodically. That does not happen automatically and often requires a payment. This is important for TV because new streets and locations are added almost daily.

How do you update Waze maps?

How much are you paying to do that?

Since WAZE is a free APP there is no charge. Maps get updated within the APP.
periodically I delete APP and reinstall.. It's FREE

I use the GPS all the time but I use either google maps or imaps and have never had any issues.

Please, please please, once you try to go through neighborhoods you are wrong. Keep to the major roads to take you to any of the courses, shopping or anything you need.

It amazes me how many people don't read the OP.

I use WAZE extensively in and around The Villages. It almost never takes me out of my way and never 'around' The Villages unless that is the best route. There is no setting in WAZE for Shortest Time vs Shortest Route.

Waze uses the average road segment speed for the time slot that applies at the time when a user is expected to arrive at that road segment. Because of this time window, Waze suggests different routes at different times of day. This is dependent on how many times are recorded on the roads along the route.
