I also asked about the hours that subs are able to work because my lawn guys are cutting our lawn at 7:12 AM. It doesn't bother us, but our neighbors are stil in bed. The Villages personnel told me that subs can work from sunup until sundown. So there you are.

And how do you know there was a stop work order issued?

It is sad, but Sundays mean nothing to most people now days. Respect has been lost for God.

You know, there are all kinds of ways to look at that. I know the commandments say to remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy and tells you not to work, but God helps those who help themselves, and it is hard for me to think that anyone working to support themselves isn't doing a good thing.

I think if God is, he is aware and caring and understanding and taking care of our own is a virtue to him. But perhaps I have become a poor Christian. I know I am relying on his mercy a lot these days.

But somehow, Bay Kid, I think that THIS issue has less to do with SUNDAY than it has with some folks being annoyed about being awakened early.

to answer the op's original question. Contractors in Sumter county can work from 1 hour before sunup to 10 pm at night

The Blue Laws are dead as a dodo bird. I can understand the 8 a.m. noise. But improving the neighborhood is a good thing for the entire neighborhood. Sometimes we put up with a temporary nuisance for long-time benefit.

Awakened by the noise or annoyed.

I wonder if people are more annoyed in the mornings without the peaceful paper and coffee with mowers going next door.

I probably confused you by changing my totv to my name, not my significant other's. The stop work order was clearly displayed in the window and says stop work order, reason no permits.

Thank you very much, Bay Kid, for mentioning God in your post. Your reference, and Gracie's, are the only two I saw on this thread that mentioned Almighty God and his commandment that we observe a day of rest. IMHO, a sad commentary on our culture and mindset.

When it rains on 40 or 50% of your work week, you have to make up the difference somewhere.

I agree with you. Maybe early Sunday noise from workers will help some to wake in time to get to church. Seriously Sundays have really changed in my lifetime. I am sure God will understand.

For retirees, which includes most of the 114,000 in The Villages, Sunday is no different than any other day when it comes to not being disturbed. It's the time of day, not the time of the week, that should be addressed.

Loud noises at 3 a.m. is bad any day of the week. Workers at 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on any day should be fine. People have to make a living. Many do their second jobs on weekends. I don't see that Sunday is any more sacrosanct than any other day, if all we're talking about it disturbing someone's sleep or tranquility.

Maybe The Villages, if it hasn't already, could set the hours during which loud noises and work would be permitted. Not wild parties, although that might tamp down some of the fun in The Villages.

See you this winter.
This time, we won't be renters, but in a home that one of us owns.

I can't wait!
