Get a Roomba and if you have pets, get the pet series roomba. It just goes around and around for a few hours every day.

I saw a Dyson cordless vacuum in use. Looked good, but about 20 minutes of use and up to 8 hours to recharge. Expensive, I thought. Saw one over to Kohls.

I have the Dyson DC44 and love it. It runs about 20 minutes on regular suction. It will run much shorter if you use the max suction. I find the regular works just fine. I vac everyday my hardwood floors and tile to get up the cat litter and hair from 2 cats. It is not good for rugs. If you want something for the car it is OK but find it a bit awkward. It does not take 8 hours to recharge, maybe 3 or 4 hours. I vac my whole house in the 20 min time frame and I have no carpet. Granted it is not the same as a big vac that I use once a week or so for a deep cleaning. It comes with a nifty device you can use on upholstery that works good. I got mine on QVC since it comes with tools not sold in the store version and I can put it on 5 monthly payments. I agree is expensive but is worth it for my purposes.
