I have lived here for just about 50-years now.A few years back I had to use the ER at LRMC.This was due to food poisoning.(My fault)
This was on a Sunday. The ER was packed at the time.I checked in with the front desk and gave them the info they needed.Total wait time was about 30-MINUTES.You would have thought I was JC himself. On other visits it was just about the same thing.Never had to wait that long.Last year I used the new urgent care at LRMC and was treated the same way. |

one of the finest cardiologists I ever knew told me he listened to everyone....the nurses, the aides, the housekeepers if they had information about his patient. you can combine that with the numbers. sorry, it's one of the reasons I retired....the lack of common sense was getting to be too much. length of stays determined by "numbers" instead of how the patient actually looked....and the same patient being readmitted in days, polypharmacy because the practitioners don't have time to really look at past records. |
The Villages just closed down the production at Savannah Center tonight. It was closing night of The Producers and it was sold out. I'm bummed, but I understand.

The first cases of the 2019–20 coronavirus in Italy were confirmed on 31 January 2020, when two Chinese tourists in Rome tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019, caused by SARS-CoV-2.[2] A week later, an Italian man repatriated back to Italy from the city of Wuhan, China, was hospitalised and confirmed to be the third case of the 2019–20 coronavirus in Italy.[3] A cluster of cases were later detected, starting with 16 confirmed cases in Lombardy on 21 February.[4] An additional 60 cases occurred on 22 February,[5] and Italy's first deaths were reported on the same day. As of 12 March, among nations with at least one million citizens, Italy has the world's highest per capita rate of positive coronavirus cases at 206.1 cases per million people |

Just wait till the first case is announced here assuming anyone can get a test. Then all the naysayers themselves will be the first to go hide. Hey people, even el Presidente is pretending he believes it's real now. Just because more people die of the flu doesn't make it the same illness. According to the CDC something like 35 people in the US were tested yesterday and something like 100 reported from other state agencies vs 10,000/day in some other counties. Just wait until the tests are actually available. |
Reminds me of Jeremiah 7:27
"When you tell them all this, they will not listen to you; when you call to them, they will not answer.” Btw, Disney World closes Sunday. |
Coronavirus restrictions.
With all of the restrictions in Florida being seen outside The Villages (sporting events, concerts, theaters, churches, cruises, etc) I think considering the higher risk residents and possible restrictions would be prudent. I am concerned that with Spring Break we will be having many out of state visitors with guest passes who have not been screened for any recent health issues (as survey on a cruise). A challenging decision no matter which direction you go. The Village Administration would be able to at least tabulate the number of guest passes issued.

What is happening in one of the worst locations
I am living in one of the worst locations for spread of the virus. You may take some insight on what precautions we have.
Afghanistan has Iran for a neighbor, Americans have 80 square feet of living space, most contractors have 50. We share latrine and shower trailers. We eat and work together in very close proximity. No virus. Hand washing, sanitizer, and seeking medical attention if ill. We cover our mouths when we cough. Pretty simple. There are no limitations on gathering in groups. It brings all the chit chat on this thread in perspective. |
The sky is falling.

How many remember "POLIO" season, summer time everyone was scared to go to pools and beaches--it passed thanks to D. Jonas Salk- I was one of the test kids back in 54'--too bad there are no drive in movies anymore--great way to go see a movie safely--

I recently met a good friend in Orlando for the day. She is a PHS - Public Health Service - Officer nurse who was deployed to Omaha, Neb for a week of clinical work for people who were on lock down after returning from cruises, other countries, etc. Her take away from that week of working with CDC officials:
1. This is not 20 times worse than a cold. It may be 3 times worse because the virus does a number on your lungs. So anyone with a pre-existing lung/breathing condition should take the highest precautions. And, of course, others who are at risk and most know who they are. 2. The most obvious symptoms are dry cough, high fever like over 101. If you take a deep breath and hold it for ten seconds, successfully, without coughing, good news. People with the virus cannot hold their breath without coughing. Some people with COPD cannot pass this test either, under normal conditions, so it's just a benchmark. 3. Wash your hands like crazy, especially when you return to your home. Go straight to the sink and wash. Some people say changing your clothes immediately is helpful as the virus can survive on objects, like clothing, for a long while. 4. Stay very well hydrated. gargle with salt water twice daily. Use a normal saline nasal spray to keep nasal passages moist. A dry respiratory tract invites viral cells to find their way into your lungs quicker. 5. If out of home and you sneeze, sneeze into your inner elbow so as not to spread droplets through the air. If you sneeze into your hand, wash your hands immediately following the sneeze. 6. No need to rush to get surgical masks to wear. Masks are for the sick person. Wearing a mask only invites the virus to cling to the mask then you touch the mask over and over and the virus is now on your hands and everything you touch afterwards. I know some may disagree, this is what the CDC has learned to be most effective in cases like spreading droplets in the air. 7. Avoid hugging and handshaking, no explanation needed. It is my personal opinion that any event with alot of people, indoors especially, should be cancelled to prevent the likelihood of an infected person unknowingly spreading the virus here in the bubble. If you must go to a big indoor event, be sure to use good judgment in order to protect your self and those around you. Also, I think people who have been on a plane or a cruise should attempt to self quarantine, as best they can, for 14 days, as a precautionary measure. We American's are so blessed in so many ways and I don't think we remember that fact enough. It's a sacrifice to miss out on events but we need to protect our most vulnerable friends and neighbors. In my opinion, even though it is a huge inconvenience and disappointment (I really wanted to go the craft fair on Saturday and cardio drumming today) I think avoiding crowds is the very best practice we can all do. It's for the sake of all of us, we are all here together and should give a little in order to protect each other, my opinion. I don't plan to debate what I've posted here, just wanted to share what I have learned and also share my opinion as a nurse. |
Sold out Trisha Yearwood at The Sharon is cancelled. St Patrick's Day at LSL is still on.

It's really hard for any of us to determine if this is an unnecessary scare 'PANDEMIC" at all. The media is scarring the pants off of people. My friend in San Diego told me you can't buy bottled water, toilet paper (of all things), hand sanitize or Lysol wipes anywhere. All stores have been wiped out. American's are panicking and I sure hope this doesn't open the flood gates for ideas of how to do harm to American's in the future. Bad guys are watching the way we react. Also remember, China produces most of our antibiotics!!!! Ouch!!! |
