This Corona Pandemic is crazy. The flu is worse. We don't shut down the world because of those deaths. Flu Kills 646,000 People Worldwide Each Year.

You can’t compare the flu with covid 19 which is only at the beginning stages. There is no way you know the flu is worse at this early stage of the pandemic.

you, are why this will be a problem. yes, flu kills this amount of people. the problem with a Covid 19 pandemic is that it has the ability to overwhelm a health system so that there is not enough staff or equipment to provide the care needed for the critical cases. Italy went from 2 cases on jan. 31 to total country shut down the beginning of March.

The first cases of the 2019–20 coronavirus in Italy were confirmed on 31 January 2020, when two Chinese tourists in Rome tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019, caused by SARS-CoV-2.[2] A week later, an Italian man repatriated back to Italy from the city of Wuhan, China, was hospitalised and confirmed to be the third case of the 2019–20 coronavirus in Italy.[3] A cluster of cases were later detected, starting with 16 confirmed cases in Lombardy on 21 February.[4] An additional 60 cases occurred on 22 February,[5] and Italy's first deaths were reported on the same day.

As of 12 March, among nations with at least one million citizens, Italy has the world's highest per capita rate of positive coronavirus cases at 206.1 cases per million people

The Villages just closed down the production at Savannah Center tonight. It was closing night of The Producers and it was sold out. I'm bummed, but I understand.

Good for them! They also just canceled ALL Savannah Center and Sharon Morse Center shows for at least the next week but (as of now) they are having St Patrick's Day in the the square tomorrow which (normally) draws packed crowds and packed bars with people hanging over each other. Go figure.

Just wait till the first case is announced here assuming anyone can get a test. Then all the naysayers themselves will be the first to go hide. Hey people, even el Presidente is pretending he believes it's real now. Just because more people die of the flu doesn't make it the same illness. According to the CDC something like 35 people in the US were tested yesterday and something like 100 reported from other state agencies vs 10,000/day in some other counties. Just wait until the tests are actually available.

Reminds me of Jeremiah 7:27

"When you tell them all this, they will not listen to you; when you call to them, they will not answer.”

Btw, Disney World closes Sunday.

Coronavirus restrictions.

With all of the restrictions in Florida being seen outside The Villages (sporting events, concerts, theaters, churches, cruises, etc) I think considering the higher risk residents and possible restrictions would be prudent. I am concerned that with Spring Break we will be having many out of state visitors with guest passes who have not been screened for any recent health issues (as survey on a cruise). A challenging decision no matter which direction you go. The Village Administration would be able to at least tabulate the number of guest passes issued.

I don't think you'll have to worry too much about spring break this year. Schools across the country are already closed as a preventative measure. Parents nationwide are a little more concerned with how they'll be able to take time off from work to take care of their kids for the next month or two, and not so much about whether or not to book a flight to Florida.

What would panic look like in the Villages? A run on toilet paper!

What is happening in one of the worst locations

I am living in one of the worst locations for spread of the virus. You may take some insight on what precautions we have.

Afghanistan has Iran for a neighbor, Americans have 80 square feet of living space, most contractors have 50. We share latrine and shower trailers. We eat and work together in very close proximity. No virus.

Hand washing, sanitizer, and seeking medical attention if ill.
We cover our mouths when we cough. Pretty simple.

There are no limitations on gathering in groups.

It brings all the chit chat on this thread in perspective.

How many remember "POLIO" season, summer time everyone was scared to go to pools and beaches--it passed thanks to D. Jonas Salk- I was one of the test kids back in 54'--too bad there are no drive in movies anymore--great way to go see a movie safely--
