They might have been to a "hot spot" (think NYC, Italy, etc) or in close proximity to somebody who tested positive later. Just a guess!

That really only works if we are testing the entire population, or even the same percentage of folks across the state. In Sumter county they have tested a significantly higher percentage of the people than they have in either Broward or Miami Dade. On a per capita basis we have tested 3 times the number they have tested in Orange County. The more tests, the more cases.

Because this is a test site for the university of florida to get research material to help design a drug to kill this virus. Don't people read, hear or do research on this topic on the internet through one of the medical sites? Try it and you might get really informed that your grandchildren are apt to get this as well.

You are right in one aspect, that because the inadequate testing being done in Florida and the US, we won't know the magnitude of our inaction until the bodies start piling up. But given that our testing rate (367 per 100,000) is on a par with Broward/Dad (260 per 100,000) and Broward/Dad is considered the epicenter of the Florida outbreak, I'd say there's cause for concern in Sumter.

Lots of helpful info in this thread but most especially I’m grateful that my fellow Villagers are taking all of this seriously. Anyone who wants to say this is virus is just like the flu or otherwise stick their head in the sand are a danger to us all. Be safe!

COVID Testing
Quote:
I'd rather be safe than sorry and I'm glad my employer is looking out for us. Because it's a study by UF Health you don't need to have symptoms to be tested. They want to test 16,000 people for the study and it's free. It's painless and quick and I urge everyone to get tested for their own piece of mind. Go to this website at 8 a.m. when they release appointments for the next day. UF Health Covid 19 Screening - Registration |

math
Would that rate make it 1,500 positives for The Villages population?

Care must be used when trying to reach conclusions based on the limited reported statistics. Based on the UF testing, the numbers reported in the paper this morning were 8 out of 420 symptomatic people tested positive and 0 out of 600 asymptomatic people tested positive. Trying to reach any conclusions on how many actual positives are in The Villages from that limited set of data is probably not worthwhile unless it can be shown that the small number of people tested are representative of The Villages population overall.

I did. No data on addresses in TV, just county stats. Thanks for your concern.

That all the cases in Sumter were in TV. They are not. The stats are for the County and not specific to political entity.

I’m just waiting for TV Covid data to be interpreted like sink holes. My sales person said, ”What sinkholes? I’ve never heard of any.”
