Default Covid 19 Mentality

The protected need to be protected from the unprotected by forcing the unprotected to use the protection that didn't protect the protected.

Fun question:

If you get COVID what are the chances that you will be hospitalized?

A. 85-100%
B. 70 - 84%
C. 55 - 69%
D. 40 - 54%
E. 25 - 40%
F. 10 - 25%
G. 3 - 9%
H. 0- 2.99%

It's H, less than 3%

But is 3% a small number that should make you feel safe?

A 3% difference in gas prices would make me drive to the next station. A 3% increase in taxes would make me quite unhappy. A 3% increase in social security payment is about double what it has been likely. A 3% chance of being in a car crash would keep me off a busy highway. A 3% chance that a bridge might fail would have me finding a different way around.

A 3% chance of winning the lottery is something I would run towards; a 3% chance of being hospitalized and possibly dying is something I would run away from.

A first time poster.

If you are new to The Villages and looking for a place to be vaccinated I noted a sign in the reception room at The Villages Health near Lake Sumter Landing that Covid Vaccinations were being given there.

A very high percentage of people who live in The Villages are vaccinated. I would guess that is true because of the very high risk of death from Covid to people over 65. Most people who have died from Covid are older.

If you have come to argue against vaccination, most of us who read this are opposed to that argument.

It is a very unpopular argument overall.

I find it sad and wrong that people are being forced to get vaccinated now. People should see that it is to their best interest if they are older. And it is to the general best interest of all mankind to be vaccinated.

Is the percentage taking into consideration the subject's physical condition? I have known over a dozen relatives that have had Covid and survived with NO hospital time, a couple even having Covid twice.
I think that the first worry would be, "what are the chances of you being around someone that is infected."

Here's a list of considerations:
1. Chances of you being near enough to someone infected.
2. Are you vaccinated?
3. Are you near enough to someone that is contagious for sufficient time to become infected?
4. Are you wearing any kind of protection?
5. Do you keep your hands away from your face?
6. If infected, do you have any symptoms?
7. If infected and have symptoms, are you ill enough to warrant a visit to the hospital?
8. If hospitalized, what is the survival rate?

I have never had the Flu. Does that mean that I am immune to the Flu or that I have just not been around anyone with the Flu. The answer is that I HAVE been around folks that had the flu and have not been infected. Or, perhaps I have been infected and not shown symptoms? I have also walked down many streets and never been struck by an auto. I have flown in many planes and never an accident. I driven at speeds in excess of a 100mph and never a speed related accident. I have been shot at and missed.
All that. Does it make me Lucky or Blessed?
I believe in doing what I believe allows me to live my life with the least amount of worry. I vaccinated mainly to protect my spouse from me, in case my luck or blessings expired. If I achieved the added protection, great. In my opinion, I am responsible for myself and my family, not the rest of the world. As long as I am not infected with a contagious illness, everyone else is not my responsibility. It is not my obligation to protect others from themselves or from someone else.
Just a suggestion; do what you feel is right for you regarding the virus, not what others demand you do. Mass hysteria is a mental issue, and has no physical substance. Don't let that hysteria/panic rule your life. If you do, then you can only blame yourself. No one else cares more about you than themselves.

This is your first post. Is it a plant to engender an argument?

So very unfortunate the issue of vaccination has been hijacked from a national health issue, down to an organizational allegiance.

Check these facts. They are valid.
Your numbers are incorrect...

You assumption is not correct. It is wrong.

The vaccination does protect you. It is not perfect, nothing is perfect. The hospitals all over the country at experiencing massive admissions of people who die, and most (all most all) of them are unvaccinated. If your comment were accurate there should be similar number of both vaccinated and unvaccinated being admitted, and/or dying.

Imagine if everyone stopped trying to argue and spent all that passion on working together.

But it is only a very small fraction of the 3% that are vaccinated so why should I have to wear a mask and bow to your non-science based desires? Let those that are at risk from me, as someone who has followed all the rules and desires of the politicians, protect themselves. I've done my job, I refuse to do yours.

So that would be six out of a hundred.

For people over 85 the number leaps to 15%

You are less than 65 years old if I remember correctly. No need to worry.

I was wrong in saying one out of ten. That is not accurate.

Looking back, do you think you have learned anything important in the last twenty years?

So have I.
