Acme had S&H. My mom did not drive and she would walk to the store, push the cart home and take it back to the store. That sounds funny now. I wonder why she didn't get a little pull cart. Maybe old city people used those and she was too modern. I remember how standing on the pad and watching the door open was about as futuristic as Secaucus, NJ could get.

I recall the first escalator I ever saw as a kid scared the dickens out of me. My dad was an engineer and took me into Boston to see it.

I really don't recall plaid stamps but you very well could be correct. Even gas stations had stamps at that time.

What about the auto mat? My mom put a coin in and opened a little door and pulled out a sandwich for me.

I remember Plaid Stamps. They were considered the other team. How silly is that?

Maybe calling it a slightly greater than middle age geezer thread might be more appropriate----but I thought you might need a lighthearted break from:

flea infested scavengers [who] will kill and eat anything they can overpower like cats and children.

If you want I can sing a few bars of the "Eve of Destruction" but I guess I would be dating myself.

1) express sympathy for your loss
2) apologize for being skeptical of your story

If you re-read your post, coupled with the post from January, you might see why some doubted you. It's not an excuse, just an explanation, and again I'm sorry. It makes much more sense now that you were clear about 2 cats, and that there was evidence that the cat door/latch was the contributing factor to the 1st cat's disappearance, so you felt safe to let the 2nd cat out there with the door secure. Regarding the 2010 post describing your cat training, you must be amazing with animals. Perhaps a new animal planet network series, "the cat whisperer" is in your future.
Once again , sorry for your loss

Hi golfing eagles: You see why they call me sage on TOTV:D

Back in the day, the popular loyalty stamps were S&H Green Stamps, Top Value Stamps, Gold Bond Stamps & Plaid Stamps. There were others but not as well known and usually more limited in areas they were available.
Of course, along with those, were we getting all those goodies in the soap boxes, glasses, dish towels, etc.
I still have my entire set for 12 dishes I collected each week at A&P.
My last Green Stamp purchase was a griddle, one side flat and flip it over for waffles.

Oh yea, to stay on subject, I did not see a coyote yesterday.
