Default Need recommendation: ceiling leak

Architectural shingles are in great shape but seem to have a ceiling leak from somewhere. Don't want to crawl around the attic.

Names and numbers greatly appreciated.

Don't have a recommendation for you, but am wondering what model your home is.

I recall that there are some Gardenias with a design flaw that causes a leak in the valley of the roof near the kitchen. A search of this forum should turn up info.

If you want an independent check of your roof, call Frank DeAngelos(?) , if find his number I will post it, a quick search for home inspection you will find it. He is very good.

Sometimes these 'leaks' are not roof related at all, they can come from condensate in the AC ducts. It is not as likely but it's certainly possible.

As I recall it happens when there is a way for the humid attic air to infiltrate the ducts, or other bad duct layout.

You might want to contact the roofer who put the roof on your house when it was built.

I had this issue.
Start with a call to Home Warranty and ask for the name of the company that originally installed the roof.
I found my original installer to be very responsive.

I am out of town at the moment but can relate to your problem. We have a Gardenia and had a leak in our kitchen. The person we called looked at the leak and measured its location and then went outside and up on the roof went to the corresponding location which was at a roofline joint. Quickly sealed and the leak was gone. While he was on roof, he trimmed some Palm Branches that overhang the roof. He then went inside and spray painted the ceiling with a stain killing paint.

Originally I feared for a bigger problem and probably delayed calling him. Total cost was less than $100. I will see if I can get his name.

Still would like to know the age and model of the house.
Valley joints are the most common place. How ever we also had the condensation problem from the bathroom can vent up north. The vent line had a slight u shape just before it exited the roof. After a couple of months the water collected in this u. It collected over 3 gallons before the leak appeared. The ducting was flexible and there was too much of it. Solved the problem by removing excess ducting. No problems for 10 years after.

Jack9696, I have no recommendations on roofers, I suggest you try searching this site (try' roofers'), with any luck you will get several threads for good and bad service. I still think Frank would provide a good independent analysis of your situation. If you have a good flashlight, you could go up in the attic (I suggest NOT walking around), and from the opening, look around, with all the rain tonight, you should be able to see wet wood. This will give you an idea of where to tell the roofer or whom ever you contact. Also, is this near the microwave, a solar tube, or as previously mentioned a valley in the roof.
Hope this helps.
