Default Curious about traffic this weekend

My sister is coming this weekend from Naples. It was on the news that 30% of snowbirds leave this weekend to go home throughout Florida.
She will be travelling along 75....do you think it would be better for her to wait till Monday or Tuesday? Its okie if she has to wait, rather than being stuck in traffic in the heat. This is my first year in Florida, so sorry if this is a silly question.

Thank you in advance.

Jeannie.... don't know how valid that statistic is....but, the question is....is it relevant??? Wouldn't she be traveling north to south, while the birds are going south to north??? So, she will be going in the opposite direction of any traffic.

Default naples

villages07. thought naples is south of the villages, therefore she would be coming up to the villages, same way as the traffic of snowbirds.snowbirds would be heading north from the south, thus same direction. do not think she would have any problem with traffic.

Default I'm confused but that's normal.....

Have her come whenever she wants.

Been traveling up and down I-75 for 10 years and except for rush hour or accidents, the traffic moves very well.

There was probably substantially more traffic last week with renters leaving for April 1st and with folks going north for Easter.

We have just moved from Naples to TV, and in the past, snowbirds leave around the end of the month, if renters, and others before or after Easter. I could be all off in my thinking, but other than families with small children on spring break, I don't see a problem with traffic. I would travel on Sunday-those who have to be at work Monday up North will be leaving on Saturday.

I drove up from Venice/Sarasota (about 2 hours north of Naples) on Easter Sunday and the traffic was not bad. Got home about 6 pm.

Default Thank You!

Thank you so much for your input on the traffic. I figured between the Easter vacation and what they said on the news about those that spend the winter here would be leaving this weekend all throught Florida.....that Sunday might be a busy day on the highway and that Monday would be better.

I appreciate all your advice, cause TOTV'ers are the best!!!

Driving north from Naples doesn't have to be on I-75. There are many beautiful routes to take, that involve routes and rural highways. Try Rt. 17 from Punta Gorda, to Bartow. Then 98 to Zepherhills. There you get on 301 and your at TV.

This may be slower, but relax and enjoy rural Florida.

ooops, mea culpa....I obviously did not read Jeannie's post closely enough. I just "assumed" her family was coming from NY and missed that it was Naples (FL, I assume...not Italy).

As Roseanne Roseannadanna would say, "never mind".

I defer to the other answers that know the Naples migration patterns much better than I do.

"As my Grandmother use to say to me, Roseanne Roseannadanna........."
Yes, she was a classic, so sad she had to go so young.

Now about traffic, judging on last weeks traffic when we cam down for Easter weekend, I would think this weekend is going to be ano absolute bear with people heading home. Last Friday, it took us 4 1/2 hours to go from the stateline to TV. When we hit Gainesville, the traffic totally STOPPED on I-75 Southbound. We first thought wreck, as we slowly progressed, and yes we saw several, but it was bumper to bumper all the way down 75 to the Turnpike into Orlando! We have XM in my wife's Accord, and had the traffic channel on, and they were talking about it. We made it to Ocala where we got off and just took 441. Using that as a guide, JMHO, I would leave Tuesday if I could pick a day.

Thank you again everyone. Gemorc...thanks for the alternate route, I have sent your directions to her, it sounds like a nice ride.

Also thank you Army Guy for your opinion, I told her and I think she is going to heed your advice and wait until Tuesday.

Have a nice day!
Jeanne
