First a cycle store next they'll be asking about a bonnet for their car.

This is correct. British terminology!!! A place to store a cycle.....

Have to wonder about the Brits. Why don't they speak proper Engish. The engine of the car is under a bonnet-a hat. If, you ever owned a British car. I makes total sense. You constantly need to take the hat off to try to keep it running. Oh and mine needed three sets of tools SAE Standard-American. Metric and Whtiworth old British.

British cars have always been like jigsaw puzzles. I remember the wide gaps between body panels on my friend's 80's Jaguars. Not very tight tolerances all around.

Sorry-can't help it.
Big brother now knows where to look.

I guess the law breakers would like the number of the roofing guys who put their roof on for free while the rest of us pay. Nothing like a good cheater.

This is a very confusing thread. Does a British person really say that they want to "place a small cycle store in our back yard" when they just want to store a bicycle? Also, I still don't know if the OP is referring to a bicycle or a motorcycle. Which is it?

Nowhere. I believe the OP is referring to a place to store their cycles not a place for others to purchase them.

Oh now, you got me to read it again. He is suggesting a cycle store, which will never be approved for obvious reasons.
If he tries to sneak, it will be reported as illegally operating a business in a villages home.

Well if they seek permission using those words it will not be approved. Gotta learn the language if you want to live an life of harmony in a foreign country.

I would think this person would want to assimilate into our society too.
Otherwise, there will be more than a few breakdowns of communication.

Pedantics are alive and well on TOTV.

Hoy!

AI Overview
In England, "hoy" is primarily an interjection, an informal and somewhat old-fashioned way to attract attention or to drive animals, similar to "hey" or "hallo". It has nautical origins, being used to hail ships or crew members, and was also used by those herding swine. The word "hoy" also refers to a type of small, coastal ship, historically used for transport and by the British Royal Navy
